hi there can i have some advice im making the normal loki staff and heres my situation:
so, yeah i got this black squishy foam at joanns and i tried cutting out some pieces. Holy cheese ball it looked like crap on the sides.
Do you having any suggests for what i can use to wrap around the wooden rod i got for the base?
heres the staff:

so any other materials suggestions ? i was thinking baking clay but , that would be to heavy and putting wood in the oven is a no no. So, any light weight suggestions to make the pieces? thanks

i used thin craft foam and foamboard for my staff, it keeps the staff nice and light, your have to use layers of pav glue to seal it and it also smooths it and gives it a little strength, to make it stronger id put some resin ontop or inside, or use worbla that will certainly make it tough, the gem i used a crystal egg that does weigh the front down so your want to put something in the base handle to balance it out.

It depends on what kind you get. Aerosol only comes in matte, but I prefer the hardcoat. A lot more durable, because it's made for sealing wood and such, but it's also a little harder to apply (given it comes in a pill bottle, for lack of a better description). Oh, and they have gold shimmer, which I'm using for the new staff

thank you ,its not as pricy as you think, the whole thing is just craft foam sheets, there quite cheap, and foamboard isnt much either.then the spray paint ,and pva glue used to layer on the foam to make it stong

I used sculpey for the blades, and that's pretty expensive, so I don't recommend it, although it's very durable. Originally I used foamboard for the blades, but I messed up so many times that I ran out of board for another attempt.

That's all craft foam? That makes life a crapload easier

no problem ,its cheap to do,but the layering on of the pva glue takes ages,if you use a hair dryer to dry the layers quicker then your be able to get more layers done in a day , i think i had maybe 8-10 layers ,mixing water n pva

That's a lot of glue maybe I'll stick to loctite and aerosol mod podge

Depends. It's both glue and enamel. Aerosol mod podge only comes in gloss, but there's a hardcoat (my fave) which is the most durable, and gold shimmer, which I'm using on the staff.
