Description
Little story behind this one. I was hanging out at a friend's house while I was painting the little Spike Sculpture: and his little 6 year old daughter, Aurora (Who loves MLP), was completely fascinated with my work on Spike. She asked if she could help paint him, but since I was almost done with him I told her "No Thank you." But I then promised her she could help paint my next sculpture. Later, I had a brainstorm. I would make her a pony sculpture that she could paint and keep as her own.The making of this 5 inch tall pony was quite a trial and error process. I still had no insight on facial expressions, so I decided to wing it by practicing on just round pieces of sculpy with no details. Once I got a smile that looked good, I started to fill in the rest of the facial details and pieces.
As you can see, its not entirely a "Traditional" MLP:FIM design. My inspiration for this pony design is mainly based off a unicorn princess costume little Aurora wore to the Renaissance Festival last year. That's why the horn is more of a classical twist-spiral alicorn horn you'd see in old Renaissance art. (Alicorn is the magical substance that a unicorn horn is comprised of. NOT a Species!). My friend told me that Twilight was her favorite unicorn on the show, so I gave it Twilight-ish bangs, and tail. The rest of the mane was to mimic Aurora's own pretty hair.
To make painting easier for her, I designed this pony to have a removable mane and bangs so that they don't obstruct her painting or cause colors to mix and blend where she doesn't want them to. I also coated it with a base coat of gray paint to make the application of her paint easier. When she is done painting the sculpture, I plan to glaze and seal the sculpture for her, and then mount it on a base. I'll post pics of the finished product when Aurora's done with it.
