Storm Hawks is a TV show that is produced by Nerd Corps. Entertainment in Canada.
Its astory about a world called Atmos and the ongoing battle of the Sky Knights and their nemesis, the Cyclonians. An awesome show.
Cartoon Network showed the first season, but now the new episodes only play on Y!TV.
Blasted CN... >_<

SaturnGrl In reply to Camilleopard [2008-12-26 00:02:15 +0000 UTC]

Scan the drawings into your computer and paint them in Photoshop.

Camilleopard In reply to SaturnGrl [2008-12-26 00:34:21 +0000 UTC]

I tried that... the downside is I'm so bad with Photoshop I can't even do that

Have fun! I look forward to seeing your Finished Background!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cirago In reply to SaturnGrl [2008-12-25 19:48:20 +0000 UTC]

Well, the background is finished! A satisfying way to spend my Christmas Eve waiting for Santa ^_^ Now I just need to color the characters

As a note, I noticed the 'official' sigils often have a gradient of the sigil color rising from the 'floor' up halfway through the background. It's a simple addition of an extra layer just above the background but underneath everything else, with a "sigil color-to-transparent" gradient set to Normal, at 50% opacity. With my red/grey color scheme, the red gradient gives the background the look of a fire in the distance, reflecting its red glow off the grey clouds of top half of the background layer.

If that makes no sense, I apologize ^_^; screen caps are much better at explaining these things...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to Cirago [2008-12-25 22:42:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I did notice that, but it just seemed a little overkill to me.
Thanks for the tips though! Are you going to submit it to DA?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cirago In reply to SaturnGrl [2008-12-26 06:33:15 +0000 UTC]

that's the plan! Although I was waiting until I'd had a chance to gussy up the characters and stick them on the background first...as busy as the family seems to want to be this holiday, it may be longer than expected. I can always toss the background up by itself in scraps if you want to see it early ^_^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to Cirago [2008-12-26 16:20:25 +0000 UTC]

That is your choice. ^_^
But it would be nice to see it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cirago In reply to SaturnGrl [2008-12-27 06:23:03 +0000 UTC]

*grin* whatever the teacher suggests, so shall it be!

*nose wiggle*
[link]

On the smaller, less rounded sigils like this one (and the Wind Wolves' the bevel/emboss/satin step doesn't seem to have much effect...not sure why. It may also be an issue with PS6 vs. CS3 *shrugs* regardless, it looks way cooler than the bland, half-assed background I slapped on the Wind Wolves. I'll have to go back and redo theirs next!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SaturnGrl In reply to Cirago [2008-12-27 18:29:07 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it could be due to the differences in the versions.
Would you like me to try my hand with your sigil on my CS3?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cirago In reply to SaturnGrl [2008-12-28 03:27:07 +0000 UTC]

How could anyone turn down an offer like that? Many thanks!

I was able to get some of the bevel/emboss business to work on the Windwolves sigil, but especially on the Claw it still looks...off. I have to tone down the opacity to around 10% to keep it from being overly dissonant.

I'll slap the red/grey sigil base up in my scraps if you've got some free time ^_^
