Story:
Attending the Olympics for the first time without Dante had been bittersweet for Lucifer. Not having the large icogan to present on the world stage was an adjustment for the other. However, Lucifer shook it off, Disturbia and him had worked hard to establish their presence to return to the world stage once again. The pair had made it through the legs of HCl as greenhorns and spent their time after the league building up skills and sharpening others. While it felt strange not bringing the stallion to all of the high profile shows, it helped the thoroughbred to have time to mentally mature without the intense pressure of consistent high pressure events. As they got to grow confidence in their team work, a multitude of ribbons had been earned in their tenure. While the angel was secretly sad they fell short of the blue so many times, he was grateful for their consistent podium finishes. Their high show averages had thankfully been enough to be granted a ticket into the individual class in Tokyo. Japan had been a fond place for Lucifer since the last time he visited, he had purchased Totilas and gotten closer with Mark and Duncan at CT. The road to making it back to the Olympics had been filled with bittersweet memories as well as moments of success and growth.
As the plane landed, Lucifer led the stallion to the quarantine area. This routine was familiar to the both of them and went by without a hitch. They trailered to the Olympic show grounds and got settled into the stalls. Disturbia poked his head out over the stall guard to rest his head on the other’s shoulder as he looked over the show jumping route. Lucifer smiled softly and gave the stallion some pets as he read. While it was a different mount, he felt comfort knowing they both acted similar as a source of calm for him. The next morning, he pulled the other out of his stall and got him groomed for their round. As they headed out to the warm up arena, Lucifer noticed a fair mix of familiar and new faces making their way through their designated warmups. The angel sighed softly to himself, still feeling some nerves as this was his first Olympics without his usual mount or the vet he had grown so fondly of. Disturbia huffed and tossed his head slightly as they cantered around, urging his rider to snap out of it and focus. Lucifer quietly apologized and gave the other a pat, thanking the other for the subtle reality check.
The bell rang and the pair’s name was called once it was their turn. Lucifer was glad they were earlier in the line up and had an idea of what jumps may cause them potential issues. He urged the pair into a trot before sending him to the first jump, styled after Kanagawa’s Great Wave. here’s to hoping that the next big chapter in their lives would end in success as ultimately it was the end to the old era.
