Artist's Notes: A commission done for . This is Xolotl, twin brother of Quetzacoatl, and the canine god of death, deformity, monsters, misfortune and illness in Aztec mythology. I combined the features of canids and the axolotl, which was named after the god, for the basic appearance of the creature and made it partially skeletal with various warts and boils to reflect its role as the god of death and disease. I found Xolotl's role to be similar to that of Anubis, the Egyptian dog headed god of death, and since both the Aztecs and Egyptians were known to mummify their dead, I gave the creature mummy wrappings and jewelry. Definitely not what I typically draw but it was fun to do and I think it turned out pretty good.
