Description
Dates: 1/15/22-1/25/22 (Took 6 days)Artist's Notes: A commission done for . This is Humbaba from the Epic of Gilgamesh, one of, if not the, first monsters ever in mythology. It was described as having a great horned head with a face made of a single coiling line like an intestine, a body covered in throny scales, the paws of a lion and the talons of a vulture, and snakes originating from its crotch and tail. The creature contains a lot of elements that might not work together but with some helpful suggestions from the client I think this depiction turned out alright. It is interesting that one of the earliest monsters in recorded literature already had one of the weirdest concepts I have ever heard of for monster anatomy, with the intestine like face, rather than just being a large serpent or lion.
