Name Origin: N/A

Inspiration: The old belief that mammoths were subterranean creatures, pygmy mammoths and insular dwarfism, the Columbian mammoth, the mammoth rubbing rocks

Another regional variant. I wanted to make Swinub evolve into two different forms based on location to show how environment effects how animals evolve. If Swinub levels up on a specific island it would evolve into Pygmmoth, representing the real world pygmy mammoth. If it levels up near a specific rock formation on the mainland it instead evolves into Mammount, which represents the Columbian mammoth. This rock formation would be a reference to the mammoth rubbing rocks, tall stone formations on the coast of California which were eroded in a very specific way which scientists speculate was caused by Columbian mammoths rubbing up against them to scratch an itch. Interestingly, the Columbian mammoth, which were one of the largest species of mammoth, is the ancestor of the pygmy mammoth, the smallest species. Living in isolation with fewer resources and predators favored small size, so generations of mammoths on the island became smaller and smaller until it was just a bit bigger than a horse. Not much to say here, it's a simple concept but I think it came out well.
