Description
As a youngster, one of the most horrifically gruesome experiences at Halloween for me often took place in broad daylight, days after the ghosts and goblins had been put to rest for another year. This was the dreaded 'Disposal of the Old Rotten Pumpkin', a chore which usually fell to me as the eldest of three brothers. By the time one parent or the other finally decided that it was time to give old Jack a decent burial, his carcass had often reached a signifigant stage of decomposition. At this point, liquefaction and fungal growth had joined forces to ensure that at least some of the once firm and aromatic flesh had become a mold coated mass of pungent mush.
