Description
With complete honesty, I ended up enjoying this film more than I thought I would. Mainly thanks to the main four actresses. I haven't even watched the original Ghostbusters, but I still had a pretty fun experience with this.Related content

I can't tell if it's a girl thing or a race thing but people really didn't like the trailer,
not sure about the actual movie though

It was 6/10 for me.
Also you actually used a quote from the movie by accident there buddy.

It just has sucky advertising which is a trend with Paul Feig's movies.

I didn't like the comedy in the trailer personally. The ghost logo with boobs joke was so forced, and the vomitting ghost was cringe inducing for me. Has absolutely nothing to do with women or race.
I like Melissa McCarthy a lot, I think she's a great actress, and I wish her well. That said, I'm not going to spend money on a movie where I'm unlikely to enjoy the script, and the trailer seemed to suggest that I won't.

Trailers aren't always accurate though. That has actually been said to be a trend for Paul Feig's movies.

Oh I'm aware of that, and I never indicated I know what the quality of the movie as a whole is after having only watched the trailer. I totally consider the possibility that the trailer might not have been a fair representation of the movie's actual quality, valid. With that said though, it's rare for me to watch a trailer for a comedy where I don't find a singe joke funny, and that was the case with that trailer. So spending money on a movie when there's a higher probability than normally I might not end up liking it, would be silly, especially given ticket prices these days. I don't dislike the movie, I don't know if I'd find it good or bad, all I'm saying the trailer did a poor job of convincing me to spend money on seeing the whole thing. And all the people who recommend the Reboot are people I don't know well, who might have a totally different sense of humour than I do. I'll give it a fair watch once it's on VOD or on tv, I'm just not going to the movie theatre for it, is all.Β

splitsider.com/2016/07/on-my-d⦠Read that, and you might reconsider. Harold Ramis himself not only planned on passing on the torch, but he would have been very open to this reboot. Also, have you watched any of the trailers for Paul Feig's movies?

I've read it, and while it's a quite a touching piece of Violet Ramis Stiel reminiscing about her Father, who tragically passed away, and why there wasn't a 3rd movie and why she now supports the idea of a Reboot, I don't believe this article is aimed at me. It seems to be written to convince the people who were against the movie based on "anti-Reboot" or "purist" sentiment or tendencies, I'm not like that. The movie just didn't attract my attention and the advertizing campaign didn't convince me to pay to see it, is all. Besides, in the article Violet Ramis Stiel herself seems to make it clear that she was split on the idea of the movie until she read the extremely negative comments on the Internet about the project. In the article itself she states that she has yet to watch the movie, and that she will "be there for Ghostbusters 2016 opening weekend with my kids, eating popcorn". She later writes "Give it a chance and go see it! Or donβt, thatβs fine. But resist the urge to hold on so tightly " The article is aimed at people who cling on to the past (I don't) and who mistakenly think Harold Ramis would be against the movie (I know he wouldn't be).
Ticket prices are expensive, I only watch about 7-8 movies in the theatre per year. I don't see the harm or big deal in this being one of the many blockbusters I won't see this year, and I'll wait for a VOD or tv airing.Β Β Β
And no, I have not watched any of the trailers for Paul Feig's movies. You have already told me they tend to be bad/terrible, and I believe you. I'm not going to search for and watch trailers of old movies just to confirm that the trailers were indeed bad, that seems like a masochistic and obsessive thing to do.Β

That's not masochistic or obsessive. You're over-exaggerating. Furthermore, if you knew Harold Ramis wouldn't be against this reboot then why does it matter that people are giving it crap when they've been giving it crap since day 1?

sunshineandlolipops In reply to Animefan-279 [2016-07-20 10:47:53 +0000 UTC]
Mate, regardless of whether one calls it masochistic and obsessive, or not, watching trailers of old movies where I have no intention of watching the movies themselves just to see if the trailers are bad, because a person on the Internet wants me to check them to confirm that they're indeed bad, is not how I want to spend my time. It wouldn't be enjoyable and I don't consider it a worthwhile activity
" if you knew Harold Ramis wouldn't be against this reboot then why does it matter that people are giving it crap when they've been giving it crap since day 1?" it doesn't. I've been saying this from the start. I don't hste the idea that this movie exists, and I have nothing against Reboots, but nothing about this movie's advertizing or promotion campaign, including but nt limited to the trailer, has convinced me to spend money on it. Especially since I don't watch many movies a year in the theatre to begin with. It's like this is some kind of conflict where one has to "choose a side", why is it so hard to understand that I'm simpy neutral about this movie? People who hate the movie haven't convinced me to hate this movie, and neither will you convince me to go see it in the theatre, I'm neutral/indifferent about it.Β Β
To recapitulate. I don't hate the movie, and other people's reactions to it have not swayed my opinion, but the movie and its promotional campaign has not attracted my attention and I won't go see it in the movie theatre. That is all there is to it. I'm a single Polish 30 year old guy, living on another continent than you, the whole 'Internet conflict" surrounding this movie is of no importance to me. I'm simply not interested in seeing this movie. Just like I wasn't interested in seeing say "X-Men: Apocalypse", or "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows", it doesn't mean I "hated" those movies, or that I was convinced by anyone, it simply means I wasn't interested.Β

Whoops, I mistook you for someone else. Seriously, there was another person I was talking to, they brought up the fact that people have been saying bad things about. Still, you really shouldn't let trailers be the deciding factor of seeing a movie. After all, trailers are made by marketing. Seriously, look it up. Trailers are all marketing companies these days.

Well, that can happen, no worries. Thanks for clarifying that you confused me with someone else.
I know trailers are made by marketing companies these days (at least for the big budget movies), and that they can be misleading. But even ignoring the trailer I'm just not attracted to the movie enough to pay around 40-45 ZΕoty to go see it, is all.Β

Eh, talk to me when you can only see 3-4 movies a year, and that's factoring out movies someone else takes you to see.
