With complete honesty, I ended up enjoying this film more than I thought I would. Mainly thanks to the main four actresses. I haven't even watched the original Ghostbusters, but I still had a pretty fun experience with this.Related content

Why? The director is a MAN. There's no logical reason for him to make a film that just jabs at men. Plus, it's been said that there's a trend with his movies. They turn out really good but the advertising for them repeatedly sucks.

Because Mr. Feig had a very bad relationship with his father and had trouble making male friends his entire life. In fact I believe he has only a few or zero males he considers friends today. So instead of growing up and moving on he kept this mindset into his adult life and has openly admitted to being a self hating man. He re-shot a lot of scenes after the reception of the first trailer specifically re writing the male roles to make them appear dumber, sexist, and jerks.Β
I understand where he is coming from growing up I didn't click with males in my generation but just because a lot of the men I met were jerks and I got along better with women didn't lead me to group and stereotype men into one category like he did. And shocker I eventually found some pretty cool guys I could be friends with. So he needs to mature seriously. Β Β
Also, for your Sony comment they removed the majority of comments that were actual constructive criticisms but kept in the few joke or touchy comments so they could claim that the ONLY reason people hated the trailer was because of sexist reasons. How do I know they did this? Because I checked that Trailer YouTube page nearly every other day and the legitimate criticism comments vanished and those vocal minority comments were left in to fool the general public. Also, the same users pointed out the following days which of their constructive comments were deleted and re posted them as much as they could when they were taken down.
The reason I call these things out if because I am not only sickened by Sony and the people behind this project as a fan of Ghostbusters but as a person of progress and change.
I did't grow up with the Ghostbusters movie I grew up with The Real and Extreme Ghostbusters cartoons my favorite characters being Janine from Real and Kylie from Extreme and then when I was in high school I saw the films and grew an appreciation for them as smart comedies and a fun ride. So when I heard they might make a sequel I was so excited that they were going to follow a similar thread of ideas in Extreme. Passing the torch off to a new generation and guiding them so they can come into their own and carry the name that is Ghostbusters. But, instead they threw all that out the window and just had the original cast do shameful cameos.
I wanted it to be like the Force Awakens where the old school ushers in the new school but aiding them in their first adventure before they stand on their own feet. I want the universe to stay connected and haveΒ Kate McKinnon or Kristen Wiig's character be the daughter of Egon and Janine or something like that and that's where they got their smarts. But, instead they shove the original aside and expect fans to deal with it a bad choice when they could have made something so much greater. So I'm disappointed in them from a creative point of view.
And as I mentioned before they also sickened me as a person who embraces progress and change. I always like to see a variety of actors and actresses getting bigger roles and starring in different films. I think entertainment speaks volumes to people about a lot of issues and can help reach the public faster. I want minority actors and actresses who aren't the norm to have the spotlight especially newer fresh film roles and to have them breathe life into franchises as long as the fit the role and it makes sense and they aren't just haphazardly shoved in because of who they are. Because 1 that devalues that person's talents by saying they got the role mainly due to their race or gender and 2 it takes away from someone who might have fit the role better.
So in short I agree with getting women into more roles and headlining and leading more films of all kinds of different genres but the way they went about it behind the scenes devalued the entire message they were trying to get across if they ever believed it. Instead of staying strong and letting hate roll of their backs the studio and ACTUAL news outlets attacked people online for stated their opinions and made it a black and white issue of the worst kind. Silencing thoughts, playing up these trolls as the face of an entire group of people, using scare tactics which resulted in a lot of critics (at least the reviews I have watched and read) walking on eggshells when giving their thoughts on the film and giving it a passing mediocre grade (while the bulk of their reviews indicated that there were more problems with it and the score should be lower do to so little positives) for fear of being labeled and losing everything.
If you have a noble goal in mind but use underhanded methods and rephrase what your critics say to only make your point of view look good without acknowledging and addressing the issues in a calm and dignified manner then that noble goal isn't noble anymore. And so even though I did't like the movie because I thought it was unfunny and poorly written I did like our 4 leading ladies I just wished they had a better team working on such an iconic and beloved property the things that angered me the most were the things happening behind the scenes so that left a bad taste in my mouth.
But, those are my two cents if you read all this thank you for your time and patience and if you liked Ghostbusters 2016 that's perfectly fine

It actually isn't. The director and cast members were attacking the ones who left misogynistic comments on forums and were giving them personal attacks. I kid you not, use a Wayback Machine and see the kind of crap people gave them. It was the "target audience" that misinterpreted it, jumping to conclusions instead of actually reading the articles.

You REALLY need to do some research. It isn't. Those who say that it is are using crap-tinted lens and judging specifically on advertising. Also, it won't flop because of China.
