Description
Here is a character piece I did for a short comic I'm writing, and may submit here as I finish it. Beyold! Ye Hapless Grave Digger! Or you can call him "Bob", if that better suites your likes. Either way, Bob the Digger is unfortunetly going to come into some problems in the near future. It isn't nice to steal or vandalize, even if the world has met it's end. All in all, I'm pretty content with how it turned out. More to come.Acrylic, gel medium, digital, and pencil.

Well, it goes with out saying that this is another great piece. You simply are the master of captivating images that lure the viewer in and make them not only think of what is going on in the piece, but how you created it as well. This is beautiful to look at. The colors, texture, the expression and stance is wonderful. You are so good at shading and expression. This is a character I am very curious about. He looks proud, and that could be his downfall. The gravestones in the background are a very nice touch.
Very nice work.

Thank you very much! It makes me happy that you like this piece, that you can see what I can't in it. I really appreciate the feedback/interpretation into his character. As I am still in the early stages of this mini comic, it's interesting to see what others see into him, perhaps something that I cannot see. The story will be told more in images than in words, so what you see in what is illustrated is very important. Thanks a lot!

Great composition. I love the style, contrast, and details. The character's pose is excellent. Nicely creepy and atmospheric.

Thank you! I was also worried that the contrast would be too stark on this piece, that it was too dark overall... damn 10 year old, cheap, cvt monitor! It's a sigh of relief to me that you all like it! Thanks!

Really cool piece. I like all the beautiful grungy colors and textures in the back. Nice character design also. The whole pose is great. Well done.

Thanks! As mentioned earlier I was worried that the background looks like crap... I'm glad you like it!

well basically just the expression on his face shows that he has attitude. as well as his body language. but if his purpose is involved in some type of love plotline then i can see him also being the male character of that line. because hes not gross looking/doesnt have tatoos. you can make him look attractive if need be. sort of like his character could be two polar opposites. the digger is the man that is in the graveyard, doing all this grotesque work that only certain men would be able to do. but then you have the possibility of an attractive loving person. you know. maybe i'm jsut rambling but thats what i think heh.

Not rambling at all, I really appreciate your insight into this. It's facinating for me to hear what others' interpretations are from something, especially when he, as a character, is still in his infancy. Thank you!

Looks great! I love the way you do highlights. And that pose is excellent, combined with the worried-looking expression. Love the trees in the background and the crease marks too. Looking forward to seeing this short comic, hopefully
Did you use a reference for anything in this?

Aww thanks! I'm glad you like the background, but to be honest, it didn't turn out quite how I wanted it.
Too much texture, maybe? I don't know... but at least it's better than when I started it. I was considering just posting him as is, because I'm pleased with how he turned out, but the contrast from him to a traditional white background was just too start, and after trying a bunch of stuff, this was the best I could come up with. *shrugs* I hope to start the comic shortly... it'll only be a 5-8 pager intended for my portfilio so I can start sending my stuff out in an effort to collect rejection slips. Heh.
I setup a reference for the folds in the clothes in the original sketch... still have trouble from time to time fleshing out the clothes (fleshing?). Thanks again for your complements

Hey, you're very welcome
Even though it didn't turn out the way you wanted it to, I still think the background is perfect for it. It really does make it look as though he's standing in a big open plane or field.
lol Any difficulties you have in 'fleshing' out clothes certainly doesn't come through in your artwork I, on the other hand... well, it's not an easy thing to do :s
What courses are you applying for? Your portfolio preparation sounds like it's a lot more fun than mine was Heh

Thanks! With almost every piece, I can see some growth. It's funny looking back at something I was really proud of and being almost disapointed. Aside from a few landmark pieces... Though I am still considering school for illustration, I'm putting together this comic and some of my other pieces and submitting them to comic companies. I'm not expecting anything, but it never hurts to try
Thanks again!

Yeah, I know the feeling. Heh.
Sounds cool. It's definitely good that you're keeping your options open. All the very best will the applications!

It's a consideration, as I LOVE zombies, but I'm not sure if they will appear in this particular story. It's kind of up in the open right now.
