Description
This is certainly the most complicated scene I've even drawn, and technically it counts as MLP fan art too. :-] It's a commission for Sharpfang of the city of Entwine, the capital of the zebra kingdom in the setting of his pony stories. The story, upon which this is based can be found here:[link]
Entwine is built in a deep long canyon in the desert, but centuries of careful gardening, rock carving and harnessing of the few native vine species have allowed the zebras to create a lush city with a moist environment and lots of plants and gardens. A giant, very strong and slow growing vine known as Iron Ivy forms the skeleton for bridges and other supports, while other varieties of vines grow on and around it providing fruits and forming a canopy which shelters the city from the harsh sunlight and winds of the desert above.
In fact only slums occupy the land above the canyon, while most of the city proper is carved into the canyon walls and the bottom is occupied by public buildings, parks and luxury homes.
It was quite fun to design the city given the specifications, I started thinking of Mesa Verde but as I looked for ideas I stumbled upon many other weird cities carved in stone which are found around the world, especially in Turkey... humans live in really weird places sometimes. o_0
By the way Princess Celestia is currently visiting the city, and can be spotted if you look really carefully...
EDIT: Holy crystal ponies Batman, a Daily Deviation! Thank you so much! X-D

Oh my gosh, this is epic. The architectural detail is fantastic, and you have lovingly rendered a living, exotic city. I have often wondered what the country of zebras looked like, and this is it, canon or not. The only flaw I noticed was the garden area in the sort of middle-bottom. The perspective looks a little messed up, and doesn't quite give all the illusion of depth it ought to. It almost looks like it's on the same plane as that ledge in the bottom left, but that's a minor issue, compared to the magnificence of the piece in its entirety.

Whoa, I had no idea this was MLP fan art until I took a closer look.
And it made the Daily Deviation.
This is just... awesome. I'm at a loss for words. Really, I am.

She's very tiny - the bright dot near the bridge. If your monitor is not too dark it should be possible to see a glimpse of her mane and tail colors too.

OH! I was wondering if that was her or not. I thought that the mane part of her in the picture was a pile of bags or boxes. Then again, that's the only one without stripes.

lol. Personally, I find WE to be a pain to use. I tried it once, made a bio-dome, then gave up on it. It takes too long to do stuff with it. I prefer doing everything by hand, block-by-block. That way, I can give each area more personal attention, improving the overall quality of the build. Sure, it takes substantially longer, but it looks really nice in the end.

Indeed it does, voxel>WE in my humblr opinion. it has more commands, it supports more brushes, and its actually easier to use...

lol, my comment wasn't adressed to you actually! I'm not sure what happened, why dA notified you 0.o but I was talking to someone who said to have found her I refuse to believe she's one of the zebras, wouldn't be very nice of the artist to make us look for her if she isn't actually visible...

While technically/legally true, too many of them are actually bronies by heart to follow that rule. (read some recent 's journals... people got in trouble for trying to sneak their ponysonas in...) - OTOH, I doubt the crotchboobies would pass Hasbro's Legal dept.
Besides, I guess they'd go for something more simple, fitting some clear archetype. This one has too many layers - ecology, economy, technology, tradition - the way they are entwined goes beyond what can be shown in a flash cartoon for little girls.
