Description This is certainly the most complicated scene I've even drawn, and technically it counts as MLP fan art too. :-] It's a commission for Sharpfang of the city of Entwine, the capital of the zebra kingdom in the setting of his pony stories. The story, upon which this is based can be found here:
[link]

Entwine is built in a deep long canyon in the desert, but centuries of careful gardening, rock carving and harnessing of the few native vine species have allowed the zebras to create a lush city with a moist environment and lots of plants and gardens. A giant, very strong and slow growing vine known as Iron Ivy forms the skeleton for bridges and other supports, while other varieties of vines grow on and around it providing fruits and forming a canopy which shelters the city from the harsh sunlight and winds of the desert above.
In fact only slums occupy the land above the canyon, while most of the city proper is carved into the canyon walls and the bottom is occupied by public buildings, parks and luxury homes.

It was quite fun to design the city given the specifications, I started thinking of Mesa Verde but as I looked for ideas I stumbled upon many other weird cities carved in stone which are found around the world, especially in Turkey... humans live in really weird places sometimes. o_0

By the way Princess Celestia is currently visiting the city, and can be spotted if you look really carefully...

EDIT: Holy crystal ponies Batman, a Daily Deviation! Thank you so much! X-D

Well it was obvious from episodes like "The magic duel" that they know to some extent what the fandom writes about. I doubt inspiration will go beyond nods like those though.

Also, Milky Way ( [link] ) needs to be canon. >_>

You wish...
Hasbro has gone quite ham-fisted recently.

That was foreseable... as much as I like MLP as a cartoon I'd never trust a corporation to do the "right" thing in any situation and I'm amazed that some people actually expect it. It's cool enough that most fan art is tolerated.

Speaking of Milky Way, I think you need to see this:

Sì X-D Ho studiato un po' di statue africane della fertilità e mi è parso naturale che dei pony facessero statue simili accentuando le mammelle.

Il nome è "Entwine", e come ho segnalato nella descrizione c'è pure una fan fiction scritta dal committente dell'immagine e ambientata lì :-3

Wow, a unique nation to explore. I wonder if Season 4 will feature Zecora's city behind her origin story.

Nice! Beautiful scene here. But, why the 'mature' warning?

ScalerandiArt In reply to CinemaSpeaks [2013-02-03 10:03:27 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I had put the warning because of the crotch-breasts on the giant statue, but on second thought it's probably not necessary, it's not meant to be a sexy scene.

Colori a olio, ormai sono passato completamente a quelli per le immagini a colori. ^_^

wow fantastico ^^ davvero bel lavoro! Se posso permettermi, hai studiato in qualche scuola d'arte?

ScalerandiArt In reply to GiMoody [2013-02-05 21:26:58 +0000 UTC]
