Scaley-Randy In reply to ??? [2016-10-31 19:33:32 +0000 UTC]
I never really thought about it but if I had to hypothesize, I'd say they're either a virus taken to the extreme i.e. if organic life are the planet's "cells" than the Markers are the virus's DNA which infect the "cells" in order to reproduce or they're an organic version of the Borg in that they were created by a race (likely insectoid) who wanted to take Unitarianism to its logical conclusion. That's a very interesting theory.

Thanks, I mean the latter makes sense given what is shown of the necromorphs, their final form basically being all life on the planet clumped together into a singular life form, the fact that almost every necromorph has some insectoid feature, and hell you could argue the reason why the necromorph's physiology is so radically altered is because the DNA that's rewriting is meant for a completely different organism.

Not all the necromorphs look so insectoid. Look at the Exploders.

that's why I said "almost", I'm not saying it's airtight lol

Whoever invented the Markers must have had good intentions before they became virus makers.

Or it could've been one last "fuck you" from galactic civilization to another like the Planet Killer from the Star Trek episode "The Doomsday Machine".

So a biological weapon gaining sentience?

Sentience or simply continuing its mission, I mean you can't exactly tell smallpox or anthrax to stop infecting and killing people.

They must have gained sentience in some form. I mean, the Brethren Moons can talk!

Or played the game?

Scaley-Randy In reply to Rootofalllight [2016-11-03 22:39:37 +0000 UTC]
I've never played it and frankly I have no interest. Other than the Brethren Moon and the Alien Necromorphs, it seems like the game has more negatives than positives in my mind. The introduction of universal ammo and the fact that the co-op wasn't mandatory like in Resident Evil 5 and 6 was nice. However both of those are immediately cancelled out by two factors. One being that they got rid of the stream-lined upgrading system in favor of an unnecessary crafting system which means all the space saved by the universal ammo is taken up by upgrade junk AND EA just had to insert micro-transactions to heavily tempt people into getting better stuff. the other being that the story is still a bit incomplete without co-op and there are co-op specific side quests. On top of that, the game has a bit more of an action focus and the enemy variety is scaled back a bit. Most of the "new" non-boss enemies are basically reskins of old ones (e.g. the Fodder are basically Twitchers with Lurker tails, the Lurkers are now dogs instead of babies, and even the Alien Necromorphs, for all the coolness of their design, are just Brutes). Worst of all, the game introduces human enemies who do nothing but make the game feel a bit more like Gears of War than Dead Space.

I see also I forgot to mention in my rant that I hate the Feeder enemies because they're just generic zombies in a series that I thought was more creative than that.

Rootofalllight In reply to Scaley-Randy [2016-11-04 21:00:16 +0000 UTC]
Well, they were based off of the Wendigo. I think these guys instantaneously became ravenous carnivores the moment they ate the Necromorph meat. They simply turned into Necromorphs after centuries.

Yeah but they still feel like generic zombies
