Description And now we take a closer look at one of the battles sure to be taking place in the Planetary Conquest war of the UNSC and Arachnids

Tanker Bug: A major part of the Arachnids anti-infantry shock troop, this mighty burrowing beast is a force to be reckoned with. While it may be incredibly slow, the Tanker Bug can emit a blast of flame that shatters rock and chars bones.

Mantis: Also known as the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Mark IX Armor Defense System, this heavy armored walker packs a mean punch. While it may be slow, it packs lots of seeker missiles and machine guns to make up for it.

Now these slow moving destroyers will make a move on the other, seeking to destroy them. Will the Tanker Bug roast the Mark IX to slag? Or will the Mantis show this bug what a hail of gunfire and missiles can do to a body? Either way, it's gonna be fantastic, and only you can decide...

WHO! IS! DEADLIEST!

The war has begun... now where do you stand?

(Disclaimer: Just to be clear, these two combatants were created / are owned by people far more creative / wealthier then me. I have made this, not for profit, but in the hopes of encouraging spirited discussion among fans. Please support the combatants official series. Thank you, that is all).

The Mantis would win hands down.

The Mantis has energy shields that are a bit stronger than that of the Spartans. He can also optionally a hard stomp attack will perform. And he has a MG-gun, that automatically loads. Not to mention that he has a rocket launcher which he can recharge to wreak more havoc.

I know not much about the tanker bug, but I would say that it is faster and more responsive than the Mantis.

I know but as has already been said not much about the tanker bugs, but I think the Mantis would win.

It would probably only a narrow victory.

This is a battle of the slow moving ant- infantry assault walkers! The Tanker brings in a powerful flamethrower that explodes with enough force to shatter rock! The Mantis brings in a machine gun and a five-shot rocket launcher! Both of these things are incredibly slow moving, however I do give a slight edge to the Tanker Bug for being able to burrow under the earth to compensate.

In terms of range, I think the Mantis has a greater range, as the Tanker only has a range of about 40 meters (131 feet), and traditionally rocket launchers can shoot further. That said, the Mantis only has five shots with that before it must rely on its machine gun and stomp attack. And while the stomp is good for squashing bugs, other attacks are of questionable effectiveness, as the Mantis is very slow and easily outmaneuvered. Then again, so is the Tanker Bug, begin at least as slow.

Speaking of weaknesses, the Tanker can be injured by potent explosions. Now, most infantry carry grenades, but those may not do the trick. I imagine the Laser could blow a hole in their hide, and the UNSC has no shortage of rocket launchers and missile based weaponry. Unlike the Mantis, which while easily outpaced by the speedy Bugs, is equipped with a super durable hull as well as an energy shield which would protect it from projectiles for a bit, letting it focus on those around it.

In the end, these things are pretty much equal tit for tat, so I can't really see one being more dangerous then the other.

Can you do the Tanker Bug vs a Timber Wolf Prime?

By "Timber Wolf", are you referring to the battlemech nicknamed "Mad Cat" during the Clans' initial invasion? That thing is as OVERKILL to the Tanker Bug, as the Tanker Bug is to the "mobile infantry in name only" from Paul Verhoeven's movie. (The ones from the novels will slaughter the Tanker Bug, equipped as they are with rocket belts, missile launchers, miniature nukes, power armor to carry all this AND to protect them from the fallout of their own mini-nukes.)

Hehe, that's what I thought.

I always figured the clans would do a better job. Elementals would wreck the bugs.

The tanker bugs flame isn't just hot as Hell it's more like burning acid, that hugs gonna stay underground until the mantis is right on too of it then burst out and blast it with all it's got, and while everything in the suit is roasting and melting the tanker bug will just body slam it into scrap metal

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

SIERRA-116 In reply to cfakatsuki [2014-02-04 21:49:31 +0000 UTC]

But if it were purely acid, then it wouldn't work. It can beat the shields because its flame liquid works on thermal transfer.

Still, at a distance, the Mantis has the advantage.

But at a distance it wouldn't see the tanker bug because they travel primarily undergroundΒ

SIERRA-116 In reply to cfakatsuki [2014-02-05 03:26:15 +0000 UTC]

True. But then again, used in conjunction with other units, it would have the advantage.

Now, against a Timber Wolf... the Tanker Bug is pretty much at a lost.

probably, yeah but this is a one on one match so i give it to tanker

But in a one-on-one against a Timber Wolf Prime, the Timber Wolf has pretty good odds.Β

Depends a bit on the range. Considering the dropship in the movie took a direct hit from the bug's flame and came out ok, I'd say the mantis could probably win at close range, and easy win at long range.

Yeah, the HRUNTING/YGGDRASIL Prototype frame.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

rakaru [2013-05-17 01:41:43 +0000 UTC]

I think which ever one got the first hit would win. If the tanker could take out the center of the Mantis it would effectively K.O. the Mantis. If the Mantis shot a seeker missile and it was able to pierce the Tanker's exoskeleton (which it probably would) the tanker is out.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Xpwn3ntial In reply to rakaru [2013-05-17 04:39:38 +0000 UTC]

And if it didn't, it has three more right behind the first one.

OT: Hmm. Tankers are an anti-infantry bug. Sure, hit anything enough times and it goes down but muscle and a heavy flamethrower doesn't match up against missiles, armor piercing bullets, and a thunderstomp. A tough hide may or may not take the bullets and stomping, but the missiles are the strongest weapon here. The robot's shielding can take a heavy flamethrower okay.

My guess: Mantis.

Now, the mantis vs. a warrior bug would be interesting.

If assault rifles can shoot through its exoskeleton and a Grande is all this needed to blow it up, then the mantis wins by far as it has 2 20mm chain guns that should shoot AP rounds and rockets.

The mantis has the armor the shields and range.

Many dead Arachnids.
