Description
Arachnids: The Arachnid's monstrous appearance belies their cunning; for these are no mere beasts. They are conquerors bent on destroying all other species with an army of engineered evolutionary horrors. Many times have the forces of man been besieged by these creatures, and they are not always victorious. Whether bursting from the ground with some great leviathan-esque horror, or managing to sneak right past our defenses only to burst from within our own ranks, these creatures are as tricky as they are deadly.Covenant: A mighty empire made up of several races united in a shared belief, the Covenant run on a cast system: Prophets, Elites, Brutes, Drones, Grunts, Jackals, Hunters, Engineers, etc. Their faith was so strong, that those that were non-compliant with their beliefs would often face a genocidal war in retaliation. One of the most powerful military force in the known Milky Way galaxy, the Covenant sought to activate the Halo Array, believing it would allow them to transcend mortality.
Now two empires will clash in a brutal bloody war. The Arachnid come with giant spiders, burrowing horrors, and tiny control bugs. The Covenant bring with them vicious Brutes, hordes of Grunts, and deadly Sangheili. With Brain Bugs and Prophets working to keep the empire moving towards victory, neither side seems like it's going to give in. Who will be the winner? Only time will tell...
WHO! IS! DEADLIEST!
*(Because I know this will pop up if I say nothing: No space battles. Planet-side only.)
(Disclaimer: Just to be clear, these two combatants were created / are owned by people far more creative / wealthier then me. I have made this, not for profit, but in the hopes of encouraging spirited discussion among fans. Please support the combatants official series. Thank you, that is all).

I only know the Arachnids from the movie, so really I can't say who would win.

I would love to see a Tanker Bug go up against a couple of Hunters, because they both seem to be on the same league.

Covenant. You guys seem to be forgetting what the Covenant does to races that don't submit - they couldn't beat the Hunters in ground combat, so the Covenant was set to outright bombard their world into a boiling sphere of glass. Numbers don't do you any good when your world's air is literally on fire and the ground melting under your feet. As for the plasma bugs that wrecked the Federation's fleet, that was due to Hollywood tactics - neither the UNSC nor the Covenant group their ships together that closely, and compared to the sheer destructive force of a plasma torpedo I'd be willing to bet even the smallest Covenant ship could take a few hits before their shields were breached, and that's assuming that they didn't simply shoot down incoming plasma fire - the Covenant's point defense systems were stupidly accurate.

Anything that resembles (or rather, inspired the creation of) tyranids and zerg would be victorious. Pure numerical superiority combined with the burrowing underneath the Covenant's feet would spell their doom.

Starship Trooper bugs vs Alien Covenant...
I'll go with the bugs on this one. I mean, they are even able to convince one of the most honored of all people (who, despite no combat experience, becomes a 'war hero') and almost DESTROYED the human race!

Covenant.
why, they would simply glass the planet and move on. sure the Covenant would loose a few ships from the large beetles that shoot energy balls from their ass, but in the end i feel the Covenant has got the uperhand, since they wouldnt even need to leave their ships

The bugs I think would win simply due to numbers. The bugs are very much like the Zerglings of Starcraft and in just pure volume can overwhelm even a vastly more advanced enemy.

Bugs can't win against tanks that shoot plasma mortars, the bug would burn.

your forgetting about the plasma bugs and Tanker bugs. Plasma bugs would take out a few ships before the covies raised shields. and the tanker bugs could come up underneath the Covenant Armor and infantry. The Covies would still win but the would suffer some significant casualties.

You would think the Covenant would win. Larger range of fighters, more long range ability. I don't know they seem like they would be a more powerful fighting force. Nek minnut planet sized arachnid leader thing mind controls all of them. Nah but seriously I would say covenant. Not to mention the size of their army, they could probably almost match the arachnids for sheer quantity, and seeing they would be a more equipped force, they would be able to win.

Covenant. The Covenant have more powerful weapons then the humans do in Starship Troopers, the Hunters alone would would severely fuck up the Arachnids' shit. Sure, the Arachnids have the huge Tanker Bugs and Plasma Bugs, but the Covenant have missile launchers and, to fight bug with bug, the giant Scarabs, which (as seen in Halo 3, Reach, and ODST) are indestructible. Covenant win.

Would the Covenant take over as masters of the Skinnies, or just kill them?
And how would they counter the control bugs?

I'd imagine they'd just kill them, I don't see how they can convert a (mostly) mindless race to believe in whatever the Covenant believes.
I think they Covenant's armor can protect from the Control Bugs, or maybe they'd make a new type of armor (obviously, that would be something for a long war type battle).

how does he comment that same thing so fast on every single one of these?
anyways, im giving this one to the covies. Grunts and drones are outclassed on the ground, but the covenant firepower is better than UNSC and should be able to blast away at arachnid warriors easier than ARs. the shots can eat through spartan armor, so bug armor wont offer too much protection. still, they can eat lots of shots before going down. The bugs are outclassed in the air though, and form the air the covenant can take out most of the arachnids best troops, like their tank bugs.

What about the underground bases Arachnids are likely to set up? Are Covenant aircraft strong enough to bomb them from the air, or would they risk sending troops down into the tunnels?

Arachnids have better Recon, Infantry, and Support. Faction Leader(s) take Adaptive Creativity, Intuition, Audacity, Experience, Leadership, and Corruption X-Factors. Arachnid Empire takes Morale, Logistics, Espionage, Discipline, and Army Intimidation, and Reinforcement Rate X-Factors. They also take Additional Information, and Victory Gains.
Covenant have better Elites, Heroes, Calvary, Air Units, Misc. Air, and Defenses. Leader Takes Tactics, Strategy, Psychological Warfare, Intelligence, and Discipline X-Factors.
They Tie in: Armor/Heavy Units
Conclusion: I was very surprised with how this turned out. While it definitely looks like the Covenant are better on a unit to unit basis 9 out of 10 times, they do suffer some serious pitfalls due to the type of opponent preventing some of their best features from working. Covenant Luminaries won't work against Arachnids, Engineers have no technology to scan or replicate, and Arachnids won't be intimidated by Covenant tactics or beliefs. One Brain Bug is better than or equal to the Covenant Leader, and Arachnids usually have several working together, meaning overall, they've got a better brains behind the brawn.
I think in direct combat, the Covenant wins some pretty decisive victories, especially dominating the air. But the Arachnids are notorious burrowers, and will likely just go underground, spreading tunnels across the planet. Eventually, they'll either come up directly under Covenant troops, or into their basis directly. Arachnids are far more subtle then Covenant, and while a squad of soldiers sent into Arachnid tunnels may not come out again, Infiltration Bugs can burrow through Covenant territory to spy, or allow other, more deadly bugs in. Arachnid Control Bugs can also take control of Covenant Troops, much like they did with the Skinnies.
So the winner is based on Time. If the Covenant can wipe out the bugs before they get entrenched in the planet, and start pumping out more new bug troops then the Covenant can kill, then the Covenant wins. However, if the Covenant take to long, then the pendulum swings the other way, and the Covenant will be put on the defensive against a war that will only get harder to win over time. I don't care how good your airforce is, it won't matter if the bugs have enough troops to tunnel under your base, eat half your pilots, highjack the brains of the other half, and then send the base collapsing into the underground.
In Essence:
Short Term War: Covenant
Long Term War: Arachnids
