Description
It has been absolute ages that I've been meaning to fill one of these out - but even now,I always find it really difficult to actually list off what influences my art or storytelling.
In summary, I am heavily inspired by concept art for films and various games, I love to see the process of beautiful and phenomenal works being broken down to the bare sketch and thumbnails, because that is the best way that I have come to learn and understand new things to put into my own works. I have a very heavy collection of books at this date. There are few artists that I can list by name who solely capture my attention in the mindset of what inspires, but those who I have listed have been SO immensely influential to my work, and I would probably sell any needed internal organs to be able to create as well as them. I could cry. As time goes by and I'm left with the lingering questions of what I want to do, and where I intend to let my art take me, I want to use my art as a medium to tell stories, for I honestly have so many just waiting to be told. Like animation and storyboards, I want to learn to breathe a real life into my works, to not be afraid of creating something that may be perceived as "ugly", draw movement with fluidity and in an attractive composition- I don't even know how to explain it really???
Gerald Brom - A devestatingly fantastic writer and illustrator. You like Gothic or perhaps macabre writing and art? CHECK OUT HIS WEBSITE
MattRhodesArt - I'm going to be completely honest when I say that I originally found his work through the Dragon Age art books, but- my god???? I am so inspired
Honestly though, when I got around to thumbing through his galleries, I was left absolutely floored by all that I found. I really don't find myself ever saying this about
anyone, but in this special case, if I wasn't already an adult, I'd have to gush about how "I want to be like you when I grow up" - the simplicity and sheer expressiveness
in Matt's work is just so-- I am so hellbent on getting to being that comfortable with creating like that. Especially with how it's all still very clear that he has such an
understanding of anatomy and proportions, but is able to have so much artistic freedom in every other aspect. Stylistically, I am going to go back and remind everyone
of how I would legitimately sell my soul or organs or whatever to be able to draw like him. My goodness.
Jekyll & Hyde + Les Misérables - I am EXTREMELY inspired by a handful of classic musicals. I cannot explain
DAI - These are actual tears because it is very rare for me to not have something to criticize about a thing that I like.
Classic Disney - Like many people, I find alot of Walt's 2D films to be so visually pleasing in both the art, animation, and storytelling. #beforedisneywasjustokay
Folklore - I think that these speak for themselves, but I have always had a special place in my heart for faerietales, especially as a kid, but it has transformed into
more of an intrigue for urban legends, folklore, and rather grim and dark beliefs that circulate and connect between regions. I enjoy the romantic whimsical stories that
some cultures hold, such as the Snow Maiden - that one comes to mind that I read as a kid and was attracted by the accompanying art, but then you go into lore about
creatures and beats such as the Draugen or Nökken in Scandinavian stories . I.Eat.That.Up.
Glen Keane - HE HAS DONE EVERYTHING???? Tarzan, Tangled, Little Mermaid, Pocahontas??? How can he not inspire, okay-- damn.
2D Dreamworks - Before it was terrible??? Do I even need to explain - Prince of Egypt and the Road to Eldorado are??? Utterly breathtaking and perfect.
Tangled - I cannot.
littleulvar - Alright, so this artist has been an inspiration for me for so long son, I wouldn't even know how to explain it anymore at this point.
I know that I don't paint - at all, but that really isn't the thing. If you don't already know their work for yourself, if you look at their gallery you'll
understand simply by the sheer-- everything? The colours used, the concepts used, character designs, stylized but still realistic and full understanding
of lighting and atmosphere-- I've been following their gallery for ages, and as you can see in some of their "draw me again" memes, you can see just
how far they've come in such little time. It is so beyond inspiring, and even while they don't even know I exist,
they have really encouraged me to persist with my own art.
Period Dramas - I am garbage and am weak for historical dramas, no matter how terribly written or paced they may be.
Klaus - How could I not list this? I saw the Pen and Ink version in this massive print book for the first chapter of the comic around christmas,
and as soon as I read that it was basically a "hero" flick starring Santa Klaus, I was SO on board. Ironically it was around the time that I was
reading Brom's Krampus. Where Santa was also a broadsword wielding badass. Life is beautiful.

All of his stuff is great. Absolutely blown away by both his art and writing.
But seriously, the Child Thief will change your life (and I keep playing with the idea of cosplaying his version of Peter)

YO- If you cosplay Peter, I will be so excited to see it, that design is one of my favourites next to the Bellsnickels in Krampus.
Though I did read the Child Thief while I was in highschool. I absolutely adored it, though I have to admit, I did feel a bit dead inside for a week thereafter.

Maybe maybe! I have a weak spot for his design lmao.
Ain't that the truth. Though it just reminds me of how tragic and gruesome fairy tales actually were before Disney got a hold of them. I mean if the Hunchback of Notre Dame wasn't creepy or sad enough, the original book can turn even the manliest man into a sobbing puddle of dismay

You know- I don't know why it never occurred to me that the film was an adaptation????
Could you tell me who wrote it, I'm actually genuinely interested. I adored Disney's take
on it though, out of all of the old Disney movies. I mean, as a kid I didn't really understand
most of what was happening throughout the story other than Quasi's narrative with the irritating af
gargoyles. But??? Frolo??? HE IS BAD-

OH MY GOD. You do not know what you ask for.
It's by Victor Hugo.
Brilliant, absolutely brilliant book but be prepared for emotional deviation.
www.barnesandnoble.com/p/hunch… - this is the particular copy I own, the original book was written in early 1800's so there are a lot of rewrites, just to warn ya.
