Description Going with the flow. Artists and things that inspire me.

1. Alex Pardee- I love the feeling of freedom you get from his artwork. He doesn’t stay in the lines. Sometimes things don’t make sense to me, but there’s a beauty in his chaos that inspires me to think outside the box. [link]

2. James Jean- His artwork sometimes strays between simply lovely and eerily beautiful. Even when the themes are dark and scary, there’s a feeling of comfort and beauty in his work.

3. Pink Floyd's The Wall- From the album, music, artwork, and the movie. Everything about The Wall inspires me. I’ve heard people say you have to be on drugs to understand it, and I think that’s entirely false. Even though I haven’t fully comprehended all the meanings and metaphors, I love that I find a new level of comprehension every time I watch it. And the music is just filled with so much emotion that you not only hear it and see it, but feel it as well.

4. Disney’s Fantasia- I’ve seen that Disney has inspired just about everyone at some level. This is the same for me. This particular Disney film was and still remains my absolute favorite. The combination of beautiful music and fantastic artwork was what inspired me to be an artist in the first place.

5. Kmye-Chan- Once again, artwork that changes between the eerie and the lovely. I love how her figures are elongated and sometimes not anatomically correct. Yet everything she does has balance and comes out golden. [link]

6. Tim Burton- I’ve always been a fan of Tim Burton’s work. The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands were some of my favorite movies growing up. If had the chance to chose any director I wanted to make Kreeble, Pop, and Jones a movie. I’d chose Tim Burton. I think he would capture the exact essence and personality of the characters I’ve created.

7. The Beatles- The inspiration I get from The Beatles is probably different from my other inspirations. I had a rough start to life and my mother was always a sort of “safety refuge” for me. My mother is a huge Beatles fan so as I grew up and became independent of her, I learned to find the same comfort and safety in their music that I previously had from her.

8. Jessica Oyhenart- She’s fantastically talented. Her women are curvaceous and she’s got skills with a tablet that I could only dream of. I admire her, yet am extremely jealous of her. [link]

9. Abigail Larson- I love the rough scratchy feel of her work. I that she uses such sharp angles and muted and neutral tones. I think everything she’s done has inspired me. [link]

10. Daniela Uhlig- Once again she’s one of those artists that works wonders with photoshop. Sometimes her art is sweet and soft, others it’s rough, and sometimes it just makes me laugh. [link]

11. Harry Potter- The books and the movies are fantastic. I love the characters and the magic. I don’t think there’s anything about Harry Potter that I DON’T like.

12. Gerard Way- In my original list, I had to cut out quite a few things. Most of them being Gerard Way related inspirations. My Chemical Romance is a great band, I don’t care what anyone says. They’ve inspired me probably more than anything else. Their music is extremely visual and beautiful. I don’t care if you don’t like it or them. It’s MY opinion and MY inspiration. Gerard himself is a fantastically talented artist, and The Umbrella Academy is one of my favorite comic books of all time. As a musician, an artist, a writer, and a person who’s overcome difficult obstacles, he and his band inspire me everyday.

13. The Lord of the Rings- The characters and the journeys they partake in are just fabulous. I constantly wish every day that I could come up with creatures as amazing as the ones found in these stories.

14. Amanda Garretson- I love her demonstrations of character design. She’s really good with bone structure and making each and every character have their own completely unique features. [link]

15. Nature- Without it we would have no inspiration whatsoever.

16. Lois Van Baarle- Is there anyone she hasn’t inspired? Her work is just stunning. I love her use of colors and movement. She has this quality to her work that makes me feel happy every time I see it. Plus her love of the ocean and it’s creatures. Who doesn’t love sea creatures? [link]

17. My son- Milo is my absolute biggest inspiration. He’s shown me how to love the simple things in life. To him everything is wonderful and interesting. Things like grass and rocks and simple shapes are new and amazing. His innocence has inspired me to open my mind and see the world a little differently. I try everyday to be more like him.

18. Myself- Maybe that makes me a little conceited, but I inspire myself often. My mind is my greatest asset, and without it I wouldn’t have inspiration or an imagination to draw from.

There you have it.
