Description Concept of one of another Demordicai Diamonds character, Gothmere. Haven't drawn this guy in years, literally. He isn't exactly a "villain" but he does play a role in the story of Demordicai Diamonds.

Gothmere is rare amongst his libbon kind for the fact that he is quite intelligent and doesn't go crazy for shiny objects. He is currently employed as the head assistant to the slightly-out-of-his-mind Lord Wraithelm and has a talent, much like his master, for bringing the dead back to something close to life in various forms. He probably is better at it than his master and is more mentally mature but still tolerates the antics of Lord Wraithelm when he puts on his ridiculous helmet.

Gothmere will eventually be in Demordicai Diamonds at some point, though don't expect him to be in the comic anytime soon.

Pixel Update: Blew off my papers tonight to work on this. I'm just about done. I still have the tunic, belt, cape, the eye area, and his beard.

Geez, 3 essays? They really have you working to the bone at college. I'd be freaking out over just one essay.

Well, the 3 are for the same class due on Monday. I told my bf he's not allowed to contact me today so that I can focus. :/

I've got most of the basic work done. She need to do some actual coloring now. I'm almost done with his legs.

Wow, you work pretty fast at the pixel art. I've tried to get into doing pixel art myself and it often takes me hours to do anything and I'm often dissatisfied with what I end up making. I could definitely use some more practice at it myself.

Well, I've slowed down because I realized that I need to be reading for my classes. *sigh* School never ends.
I'd be happy to tell you how I do mine.

That would be awesome awesome. I've been trying to pixel a new avatar and sprites for a game me and Professor Awesome are kinda working on but it hasn't been going very well so far.

Sure thing! Like I said before, I'm pretty busy with everything in my real life. This keeps me from working on a lot of my own art, but I'll try to get my shiz together to help you out! And if you ever need an extra artist for this game you mentioned, I'd love to help!

With you being in college, I would be surprised if you weren't busy. I talked to Professor Awesome and he wouldn't mind having another artist on the project though we need to flesh out more of just what the game is going to be about. The main idea we have would be a Demordicai Diamonds based game. Now where we would go from there, I really don't know. We haven't worked on it that much, it's been more of a back burner idea postponed due to lack of art assets for it.

Professor Awesome has this program he uses for games but being as horribly art-impaired as he is, he never gets far with his projects. He does know a little how to make custom coding. The program he uses does have some limitations. It's generally used as an RPG creation engine but is currently limited when it comes to sprite color palettes. The sizes for the various things are:

Heroes (battle sprite)...........32x40
Walkabout (outside of battle)....20x20
Portraits........................50x50
Small Enemies....................34x34
Large Enemies....................50x50
Huge Enemies.....................80x80
Attacks Animation................50x50
Weapons..........................24x24
Box borders......................16x16
Portrait (for text boxes)........50x50
Backdrops......................320x200
Tilesets.......................320x200

Everything except for Backdrops and the Tilesets have to be saved and imported in 4-bit/16 color format. There is luckily a bit more leeway with the Backdrops and Tilesets, they can be saved and imported in 24-bit or 8-bit (something like that I'm not keen on the technical details, all I know is that they can have more colors than everything else). I hope that all makes more sense to you than it does to me.

Okay. This makes some sense to me. I would be more than happy to throw in whatever I can art-wise, but I obviously claim only the art I contribute because I don't see myself able to be involved in anything else.

I use the paint program. I will be able to match your sizes with no problem at all. I am not so sure about formats though and what effects that will have on my color pallette. That is the only concern I have with this. I have never really had the need to differentiate between them. I will look at it tonight though and see what I can find. Because it's just basic paint, I don't know what limitations I have or if there are any.

As for college, I have 2 classes this summer and don't dive into the new semester until September. Even then, I make time for myself. (If you guys poke me and pressure me to get shiz done, that's totally cool. I'll probably need it cuz I tend to procrastinate.)

Other than the format/pallette concern, I'm totally ready and excited to start right away! I use skype and MSN messenger regularly and can give you that information if you want for easier communication.

I know it wouldn't be hard at all for Professor Awesome to include a credits section and give you full credit on all your pixel work and even link to your dA profile. I think he might try do do something special and include us all in the game in a way, kinda like how you could talk to some of the developers in the original Pokemon Red and Blue games for gameboy.

I was checking out old paint and it does have the formats, you just have to save it at the end and if you are using too many colors, it will cut the palette down to the first 16 color blocks (8 on the top row and 8 on the bottom row).

If you want to start now, I can give you your first (and probably most important task). First thing first is we will need walkabout sprite sets of Dalken, Rune, and Juna. The walkabout sprites consist of a total of 8 sprites, 1 for each direction and 1 for walk animation for each direction. The animation would go A,B,A,B,A,B,A as the character walks. Think you can do that? Feel free to take your time, we're in no rush.

I don't have Skype or MSN messenger or anything like that. My dial-up is so damn fickle, it's already hard enough to get deviantART to work sometimes. I don't know if Professor Awesome has any of that either. He has super-fast internet but I don't think he really socializes much on it.

juanesilver In reply to Scary-Strix [2011-06-18 14:04:29 +0000 UTC]

I can definitely do that. I've seen the template for the pokemon ones, and they're the same format. Of course, I won't start until I finish my essays and my current pixel work. I've just got to shade the belt.

If I have formatting issues, I'll send them to you as is. That way you'll have it in the exact format you need.
