Shadow was the first Nightmare Pitch ever made. She has been by his side and remained loyal to him over the many years. Even when the other Nightmare's turned on him, she was there to stop all the chaos. She's the leader of the mares and she makes sure everyone does their job properly. While she can be a bit of a moody pants, she knows how to have fun at the right times. She puts a smile on everyone's face and she tries her best to keep everyone happy.

Pitch got the idea of making Nightmare's when he first became the Boogeyman. It took him a while to perfect the sand to make his mares, not to mention the time it took him to get the patterns on their sandy coats right. It took him 28 years to create Shadow, after that he found the design and technique easy. He has many Nightmares now and the numbers keep rising. Shadow was becoming quite tired and bored doing the work by herself so she asked her master if she could have a little sister, and sure enough a second Nightmare was born. She suggested that they'd all be adults so they wouldn't need training as much, but as the group expanded they all wanted a little filly to join the gang.

Now the Nightmare King has many, many Nightmares to care for now as well as little fillies that grow up like normal horses. He never mentioned it to them, but Shadow was, is, and always will be his favourite. She helps out with the fillies and the sick mares by keeping them happy and out of trouble.
