Description
Name: AfancAliases: Addanc
Factions: More information available at a later date.
Status: -Active throughout recent history
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Rank: 2
Measurements:
Height: 5 meter at shoulder, standing
Length: 10 meters
Weight: Heavy
Powers:
Normal:
- Bite - The thick, sharp fangs allow the Afanc a heavy, deadly bite.
- Claws - The claws, while relatively blunt, are still able to drag through the heavy hides of other Kaiju and boat hulls.
Special:
- Limited Invisibility - Afanc can literally disappear, but only for a moment or two. This is usually enough for it to get close enough to attack or to retreat.
Weaknesses:
- Lightning - Any electricity, really.
Personality:
Afanc are strange creatures, looking like a cross of a crocodile and a beaver. They prefer inland lakes to the open seas, though they seem capable of dwelling there. Able to literally go invisible, even if only briefly, they are unsurprisingly very successful predators. They seem to have little interest in humans for the most part, however, and thus aren't deemed a threat for the time being.
Bio:
Personal Report, Joan Bowman, May 7th, 2034, Entry #19.
And the last second hand report I recieved today. The other Kaiju observation teams aren't idle, that's for certain. This one is interesting if only because it comes from stories with no set description. It matches most of them, however, and the area is correct, so Afanc is a good enough name for them. Not many other Kaiju in Wales that go invisible and look like a beaver and/or a crocodile, are there?
It blinks completely off the video they managed to take. There one second and then just gone. Lucky it doesn't seem to follow the other part of the myth. You know, where it murdered people for shits. It didn't come close enough again for another video where you can see anything, but the long range photos and what blurry grainy crap videos they did manage are pretty interesting. Mainly a predator, and a damn effective one given the invisibility and paralitic. Even if it only clips you with a claw, you are in deep shit. It doesn't have to be fast to be an effective killer, which is good for it, as the fat little fucks go at a rapid pace of "amble."
As a personal note, I think they're fucking adorable.

No mention of the Afanc's ability to create whirlpools?
“Nothing swims on it without danger, and I am not sure that it would be very safe for a bird to fly across it or not. Throw a rag into its water and it will go to the bottom, and I have with my own ears heard a man saying that he saw a goat taking to this lake in order to avoid being caught, and that as soon as the animal went into the water, it turned round and round, as if it had been a top, until it was drowned.”

This isn't exactly the Afanc of myth, here. It's an approximation for a DA group story about kaiju.

And some more: "Llyn yr Afanc [part of the River Conwy, North Wales] is a kind of whirlpool: anything thrown into it will whirl round about before it is sucked down. It used to be thought that is was the Afanc which dragged down animals or people who fell into the Llyn."

I must applaud anyone who knows really anything about the obscure mythology of perhaps one of the least known countries, at least in Europe. Lived here my whole life and only recently began delving into the strange creatures found within. Great art, too.

Well thank you kindly! I'm glad you like it!
I have a giant monster encyclopedia, so I find a lot of obscure stuff that way.

They do have a strangely cute quality about them. You knew a crocobeaver could create that effect.
