Description
Added 9/18/07I like Varan. His movie was awful, but I still liked the monster. He looks neat!
I am regreting coloring in his spines. After I was about halfway done, I remembered that they were clear, and it was to late to stop.
I am hitting myself for that one.

Looks like a proper Lizard in that pose. Nice job! Varan was always one of my faves.

Thanks! I like Varan, he doesn't deserve a lot of the flak he gets.
Oddly, that pose came from my cat.

Never did get my paws on a copy of Varan's feature film, so the only canon comparison I can draw consists of one or two black & white movie stills and his half-second of screen time in Destroy All Monsters(C). Based on that, the posture alone is certainly an improvement, as are your much more impressive dorsal spines, shading 'error' notwithstanding. Ah, and I love that toothy scowl...mayhap he's just spotted an aerial adversary to mix it up with.

totaly aggree with you there! Great monster, bad movie
And don't worry, the awsome-ness of the pic makes up for the colored spines

Thanks! That makes me feel a little better, though I still wish I hadn't done it. His clear spines are cool!

Nice work again - I thinks this is my favorite Varan design. I've only seen the movie once a long time ago, but I really liked Varan. I remeber drawing it for about a month after seeing the movie.

Your favorite, huh? Thank you!
That movie was good the first time I saw it...when I was 7. When I saw it again at 18, though, it didn't quite match up with the "awesome" movie I saw when I was young.....

Your version of Varan equals badass.
Well, next to ChaosGhidorah's and GodzillaSamurai's versions (which it is close to being).

A wonderful rendition of a somewhat underused kaiju.

Thank you!
Heh, its actually supposed to be a spikey carapace, but it does look like fur....

Yeah..it does look like fur. That would be cool though. He could be like a reptile-like mammal?
But yeah still one bad @$$ design of Varan you got!

Or a mammal-like reptile, putting him amongst the ranks of dimetrodon and... some other pre-dinosaur creatures.

Yeah, that could be....
I always sorta pictured Baragon as one of those for some reason...
It's hard to think of other mammal-like reptiles, isn't it? And I just watched Before the Dinosaurs, too.
