Description
This is partly a montage project for my conceptual class and an homage to Silvia Ji. I used a friend's myspace user photo for the pose of the head and studied as many of SJ's paintings that I could find in my stash of Juxtapoz and the interwebs.

She is Mictecacihuatl, goddess of the underworld, also known as Lady of the Dead. The flower wreath on her head is of Mexican marigolds ( which was also done as homage so SJ's Por Vida, as well as the gold foil she uses in all of her work), which are also called Flor de Muerto. These flowers are believed to attract the souls of the dead to the offerings of Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). The cloak/veil she's wearing is an ode to her Guadalupe painting, where I attempted to use gold pen. The skulls underneath the veil were supposed to be sugar candy skulls (the offerings of the dead), but due to my screw up, they had to be darker, thus, scary skulls. The white and black in her hair satisfied my inability to pick whether to give make it one color or the other... and my bride of Frankenstein love.

This is a poor quality picture taken with my phone of the main part of this painting. I've photoshopped it back to the original state of colorfulness.

I'll try to replace this with a better picture, whenever I get one!
