- Edit - may 2010; new artists comments.Practice piece, had to be taken by camera.
The general conformation of the head and neck was taken from a horse on the front cover of ' Professional Horse Care ' hardback. The image is only be 1X2 inches big if that.
The shaping, hairs and colour pattern were done free hand, and the dapples were more of a half hearted attempt, which is why they look rather terrible.
Ive spotted 9 major faults in the piece so far, including..
1. the nostril is slightly too high, making the face look twisted to the front, where the rest of the horse is facing the viewer slightly
2. the eye is a fraction too high
3. the eye is a fraction too large
4. the mouth could have come backwards a little bit more
5. the neck comes up into the glands and jaw a little too soon for the type of horse it is supposed to be
6. the prominant cheek bone is a little too short and high
7. the windpipe comes too horizontal too soon
8. ears are a fraction too up on the skull, making them too close to the eye
9. the musculature coming from the muzzle to cheek is inacurate
Overall, i dont like it.

wow. perfectionist much? you should really be more confident in ALL your work. remember, no one's perfect, including horses. so if you hadn't pointed it out, i'm sure no one would have noticed... personally, i think its BEAUTIFUL

The detail is really good. I see what you mean by 1. you shouldn't worry about 2 &3 they are fine.i agree with 4. I don't think its really as bad as you think though

Lookin' good! The only thing I see wrong with the dapples is that they are too uniform. Dapples tend to be a wide variety of shapes, closer togethers, and not so much in a single strait line. But other that, they look pretty darn good!

Yeah, it was annoying when i drew it because i hadnt realised they had gone in such strange lines. The dapples dont take the shape of the Brachio muscle in the lower neck either, think i may end up correcting it before i scan in the image :@lol:
