Description
This photo is done using a technique called "painting with light". This is not a digital manipulation, but was done in camera, pretty much exactly as you see it, other than minor adjustments, cleanup, and toning. A full explanation of the technique can be found on my website FAQ [link] .
This was photographed with a Canon EOS 20D and 28-70mm f2.8 L lens. 30 second exposure. Hand held light. This print is available for purchase on my website.
Administrators: the model is over 18 and I have a signed model release.

not a bad example man pretty interesting technique u use more drama would have been better maglights are perfect flashlights for this imo check out my gallery or check out my mentor photobrew.com not freakin easy to do with black and white like i said well done i just got into doing this is b&W

Funny story: I had tried a couple of completely different poses with the model on a stool (not nearly as good as this one). In the earlier attempts, there were more strings. When I was rigging up this set, the model was giving me nervous looks, as I had an extra string left over after I'd strung up all his limbs the way I wanted them, which happened to be strategically located right in the middle. I joked with him about stringing up his privates, which nearly sent him into a minor panic until I removed the extra string.

Awesome technique. Very interesting 'painting with light' idea. Besides that, I find it all a bit underwhelming. Like some of it was done out of habitual conventions (i.e. the naked model, the puppet strings) it seems like the concept was a mash of small ideas that never completely juxtapose effectively in the end and make it a somewhat superfluous addition to a gallery.
I might sound harsh but your photography is talented, I just find no meaning in whatever this piece is saying besides the over-used puppet person idea. I admire that painting with light as well.

Kinda reminds me of Joel-Peter Witkin's style, the way the objects and figure are placed. But without the fairly unpleasant shock and nasty tone his work has - your image seems very lovely and radiant
