There's been some interest of late in my Flying Phantom character, so I threw some colors on a quick ink sketch.Related content

I've been looking at this for a week thinking it reminded me of someone's art. Aside from you. ... Lobster Johnson artist Jason Armstrong.

I'm not familiar with his work, but now I've got to go check it out. Thanks, Ron.

the only thing i'd change is the gun barrel- you wanna lengthen it a bit to jive w/ the look of a 1911 .45 [link] I can only assume the era that you're going for but most airmen carried the Hi Standard model H-D military pistol or a smaller revolver. I've got my grandfather's [link] it's gotta little shorter barrel. He said they mostly went for compact sidearms as pilots. Take a look at the Walther P-38 too.

That first link didn't work, but that pic of your grandfather's is great. What year was that produced? The 'hantom is a rogue Army Air Corps pilot in WWII. I honestly haven't done any research on what pilots carried. I've been researching myself stupid with planes models and pilot biographies. Is the P-38 the Lightning?

oh, and as far as the year produced?
I don't really know. There's no date stamp on it, and I can't find too much info on his model. It's a patent pending thing, so i don't know if that means that the standard was in production run at the same time or way after.

That's cool. I've got a firearm almanac so I'll try to find it. Thanks.

Oh, i put a period after jpeg apparently [link]
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a plane but the Walther P-38 is a cool looking Luger-ish looking gun. [link]

Thanks for the reference. Which gun was more common for an American fighter pilot to carry?

that's the thing, i think it was preference more than a "standard issue" scenario.
The Brits seemed to have a "standard issue" revolver [link]
But as far as I can tell they just wanted something smaller that wouldn't snag on anything. They talk about filing down sites and hammers just to be safe.

Speaking of radio shows do you know of any that are still in circulation or ones that you can get off of iTunes? I heard someone talk about it once and forgot all about it.

Thanks. I was a little worried that the contrast on the jacket would be too extreme.
