Description
I took this photo of a Snapping Turtle (Chelydra Serpentina) at the Kalamazoo Nature Center. It was pretty good sized and the king of the pond. When I was a little boy, my grandfather called my cousin and I over to his car, popped the trunk, which contained a huge snapping turtle (at least huge to a little boy). I asked Grandpa what he was going to do with it and he said "cook it and eat it." I was glad we weren't eating there that evening! Later my Dad told me that growing up they had turtle every time Grandpa could catch one. Happily that was one tradition that wasn't passed down.
