I thought some of you who have been following my cat and newspaper series recently would like to see a photograph of the black cat who inspired it. So here he is. This is Caspar. He is a young, abandoned tomcat I adopted three years ago. Needless to say, I absolutely adore him.ΒRelated content

I love black cats, even if they are considered bad luck

It's odd but different countries have different superstitions about black cats. In Spain and Italy they are considered bad luck, but here in the UK they are considered good luck. I think black cats are considered lucky in China too.Β

It was his glowing yellow eyes I first saw, shining in the dark. He was a homeless cat who had been creeping into my kitchen at night-time. He was in a terrible state - unneutered, flea-infested and full of worms. I took good care of him.Β

I've no idea how long he's been living rough, but there was a tapeworm inside his gut the size of a strand of spaghetti. I had to treat it, and I'm very squeamish about things like that.
