Description
I'm working 2 jobs. During the day, I work in a studio teaching leisure art classes and in the evening, I work a tool and pipe manufacturing company at night. It's funny listening to the guys on the trades talk smack all day about having jobs that require a degree.
Thing is I have degrees. I work a few hours and gross good money. I have to break my soul maintaining the plant's workstations. I hate these plants. My dad broke his back in one of these places. I don't hear degreed folks discussing trades. I don't quite get the classism coming from the trades. If you're happy.. you are. My folks didn't want me in trades. My mom has arthritis and my dad RIP to his skeletal system. He can barely get around and needs shots for the pain that never goes away.
All I know is if I didn't have a union, this plant would have killed me already. Before my corpse would go cold, my job would be posted. The pay is not great. I have to work OT to get the time and half. By then I am too tired to "enjoy" my pay.
I'm still working education, so I still get Spring break off. I was able to get a week off by letting other people take my time.
If I could get more time at my first job, I'd kiss the plant job good bye. I work more hours at the plant and don't even begin to match the money from the education job.
Ignorance is bliss...
I use to take off during my Spring Breaks with whoever needed extra gas money or just an extra body in the car to help make the trip. I use to squeeze into Datsun to head to the border and sometimes road shotgun in an old pickup truck loaded down with hunting rifles headed to Louisiana.
Use to pack up a bunch of sandwiches and refillable water jugs and pray for fam or friends to have a sofa for me to crash on. Use to meet all kinds of folks in different places. Loved going to the small towns near the beaches. People use to bbq and I never worried about starving once I made it into town. (...that was sooo long ago...)
Now-a-days my Spring breaks are spent catching up on sleep, keeping these evil a**ed door to door salesmen at bay, running errands, and spending a bit of time with my family.
I guess I was blessed to be able to do so much back then. I'm staying out of depression by riding the fumes of my memories..
