~The Road In-between~

Had to pave the road myself,
couldn't lead the horse to water or make it drink,
not much to be proud of but making her feel important,

Dragged my feet in the dirt,
it made a nice hot feeling in my chest as it all went down,
I took a car up to go see her but she was already gone,
gone for a while they told me,

God whittled her from oak,
took all that burden and put it on me,
when I burned out some years ago,
carried on until I couldn't no more,
and then kept going,

Dropped some poison that tasted good to me,
threw old love letters in the kindling,
just an old friend who went away for a while,
didn't drag my feet back home,

Went to heaven in an old Camaro,
had a lot of stories to tell, no vacancy,
couldn't shake it away,
I'll go back but let's face it,
won't be much of a ride down,

That's all there was.
