Description
Making basic rose sculpture tutorial video in simple tools
It's 37 minutes video, so make sure you really like to see it, link here:
YouTube
www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-Lf88…
(It's a HD video, you may set up the playing speed if you don't have much time viewing it!)
I had made a simple video for how to make a rose sculpting tutorial and uploaded on YouTube. This is the first time I recorded my sculpting process, I actually tried many times even I thought I had good experience sculpting. But sometimes, I was concentrated and got out of the shooting range... The whole 37 minutes video for a rose took more than 3 GB...!! Well, finally finished and took a long time to upload, next time I'll make it better I guess!
The video shown how to make a rose from the center of petals to the sepals, calyx, leaf, stem and thorns etc step by step. You may make it bigger or smaller using the same methods but according to the proportion and the detail in the right scale.
Basically, I tried to show you how to make it with simple tools, mostly fingers. You need to sense the softness and thickness of clay and play with it a lot. Take a good look at you reference of roses. It's important that you look and study its anatomy. Also how to make it naturally beautiful! After coloring, imagine someone you love who receives it...! Anyway, enjoy! Hope you like it!
Please let me know if the video helps, so I may make some more further,
I really appreciate your comment, thanks!
Alex Liao

I am wondering...the leaves, thorns are so thin, it doesn't break? Because I have this problem with mine figures :c

It will break if you don't be careful with it.

I was hoping people can see the best tools for sculpting are fingers, even a small rose petal compares with my hands can be formed with a bit of touch. Also it's not too soft in hands as I was moving around.
The best thing is finding the methods that is suitable for the sculpting objects. Thanks for your kind words and support!!

You're welcome! I thought the process was too long and might get bored watching, but it helps showing that any sculpture starts from nothing but step by step.

It worked great! The sections where you were saying "bake this then.." went by kinda fast so I went back and looked at them for a few seconds, but I learn mostly by watching and then doing with things like this so it was great to see exactly how you do it. Made me rethink my whole strategy really. It never really occurred to me that you can bake and sculpt onto the bake more. Don't know why. Anyway, thanks again! Your work is amazing!

I thought I should make some frequently asked questions and answers including the oven setting, smoothing clay, sculpting set up etc. The clay can be in and out baking more than 10 times, just set the temperature lower and less minutes than the box instructions shows, and only turns on the bottom heat of the oven etc. It would work well.

oh, that would be fantastic! I tried looking up some things like that just through google, but didn't really come up with anything. Just kids crafts basically and the same instructions as the package. I'll definitely have to do that, I've got a few things I've been trying to figure out in my head and I think that's probably going to solve my issues
