Description
Never liked him. He was so one track boring and had a marshmallow design, egh, all the characters could be fixed.Still wanted to take a stab at redrawing him, gave him real Hyper Boots good for space outings, no cotton-ball feet.Β

I enjoyed Chiro more then Sprx (prepares to be assualted by Sprx fangirls). But in retrospect, i think part of Chiro's smaller fanbase could potentially be he had the least character development as well as a lack of past exploration, to where we got to see the monkeys' past in huge flaring colors.
I see Chiro's character having potential, definitely room for improvement. I really like how you designed him here, i really laughed at the 'cottonball feet' haha.Β
Maybe if they made him more complex as an adult, that'd shift more fans into his favoritism perhaps.

Hahaha! My preference has always been Sprx because of his layers of personality and struggles as a character. Chiro wasn't the worst, but he was unfinished.
I wanted all the characters to have growth through the show, but I don't think there was enough money or planning.

If i had to guess the one you thought was worse, my take would be... Antauri? ;D
Actually, I think you're spot on with the planning part. I feel money wouldn't really effect a good story as it would graphics. Unless a good writer was to expensive, but every writer has talents and weaknesses. I feel like the time/less careful planning was what led up to the slower character development. As a novelist myself, i saw plenty of missed opportunities that would've been perfect for character growth during the episodes.

Pretty much. My tier list for character interest is: Sprx, Gibson, Nova, Chiro, Antauri and Otto. I only put Otto last because I really don't like dumb characters, even though he has more personality than Antauri. Mandarin clone would be fit right after Gibson because he's hilarious trying to be better than his original, while still not having the same merit, his disgrace from his master keeps him interesting.
I'm not sure why the story was so lackluster, especially since the director went on to make one of the best TMNT shows out there, but I'm going to guess he had an opportunity for a show and just wanted to toy with it and wasn't going to worry about making it really good, since it is based off old Japanese robot team shows. Don't recall any of those being good.

Now i can definitely agree Gibson deserves to be in the top three, in terms of most development, i felt Nova was the most carefully written, because i felt they did a good job not falling into the 'sterotypical female' trap.Β
Antauri was one of my favorites, but hear me out, it's not for reasons you may think. I find characters who try to carry the most dignity actually are the weakest ones. I can see them taking his character in a very interesting direction IF they carefully analyzed it. You know what they say, keep an eye on the 'stronger' individuals, they're probably a lot weaker then you might think. Also given into account Antauri's 'worst fear' was revealed 'losing control of his body'. Yet it didn't reveal what his original fear. My guess, maybe an intense fear or being alone? Isolated? Made me wonder what'd happen if HE had to face something alone,, without his friends. Curious.
Pesonally i liked the show mostly cause of the great voice casting, very well done, it kept my attention. Plus i kind of liked the bizarre family unit they had going on, it was fun.
BUT i see your point on the older sci-fi Japanese shows, a lot of those were a bit stale. I felt like SRMTHFG would've done better if they gone a touch darker, push the limits a bit more. Skeleton King was a well voiced character and had great potential, but like we already established, missed the point here and there.
What mostly threw me was the amount of, well, plotholes presented. It made swiss cheese look whole.

I felt Nova was still within the "warrior woman" trope, however she did start to show other facets by season 2. Antauri was never for me because his personality is too similar to mine, however he carried a sense of being over powered and his weakness hinted at giving way to not being perfect or ideal. Antauri's humble attitude is what kept him kind and wise, but I could see him up there with Skeleton King and the original Mandarin. The reason I prefer SPRX is because he stands out, has personality and of course struggles with his own weakness, while Otto does not struggle enough and has a lot of personality too. When they started pitting Gibson and Sprx together is where I found Gibson more interesting, he needed another character to bounce off of otherwise he'd never progress on his own. He is a very isolated/ lonely character due to his nature of work and intellect and needed reminding that his team is there for him.
The voice casting was great, very good choices. (Tom kenny seems to play a lot of blue characters/ various smart monkeys and a sponge.) Pity they couldn't make the show stronger like Voltron, despite the long goofy name and silly concept, it could have been a small gem.
