Description
LAST parasitic worm I'm illustrating! This completes a set of six major human worms!Button: [link]
SHIRT: [link]
DRACUNCULUS, also called Guinea Worm, is a parasite which definitely lives up to its ominous proper name. Threadlike females may grow up to three feet in length, and cause excruciating pain as they tunnel through the skin of their host and create a burning, open sore. The parasite intends for its host to immerse the sore in water for relief, and will release its swimming larvae at the first opportunity. Larvae infect tiny, freshwater crustacea in the hopes of being accidentally swallowed by a human.
........This is probably the most stylized of these worms, since they don't really have a defined head at all. Now that I think about it, it might have been cool to draw it without the head and just have an accurate stringy guinea worm holding the pickaxe. What do you think??

I could have sworn that was a scythe. Still really cool, I love the grin and the blood splatter. Your superstitions lately have all been awesome though. I'm trying to choose which to get as a shirt to show my Bogleech love with.

LOL these are definitely up there on the nastiness list of parasites. And yet still so cute.

What happens if the host immerses the open sore in vinegar, alcohol, gasoline, or hydrogen peroxide of demented do0m?

The larvae would probably die, but most of the worm would be safe in your skin. It has to be pulled out so slowly that it takes a couple days! They're wound around a stick bit by bit.

there's a common rumor that the medical symbol of the snake wrapped around the staff is actually based on this practice, but I think it was debunked. Woulda been cool

I've heard that the Rod of Asclepius is based on a staff made by Moses (embued with healing powers from God) used for healing snake bites.

Indeed. Guinea worm treatment has to be one of the single moist excruciating things I can currently comprehend.

Reading about it made my skin hurt. I hope you're pleased.
I'll put with it for the appeal of a zag-mouthed pickaxe worm, though.

Just reading about that did it? Just wait 'til you hear how it's treated!
(I won't say if you really don't want to know.)

Sure, tell me. What (physical) harm can it do?

The doctor wraps the protruding part of the worm around a stick and verrrrrrrrrrry slowly winds it up, pulling the worm out, taking care not to break the worm by pulling too hard and leaving some of it stuck inside you. It can take a few weeks to pull out a full grown one. Pleasant, no?

There aren't any more to do, every other worm that normally infects humans would just be a more generic variation on what I've already done. There are lots of flukes, for instance, but none as unusual looking as a pair of Blood Flukes. There are lots of other nematodes, but none with fangs like the hookworm.

Have you thought of parasites that don't infect us? Wait, I don't think you've done parasitoids, have you? You could make wasp maggots and...Other things.
