Am I the only one that actually feels bad for this character? (I know I'm not
) This is what I think of her, she's got almost the perfect competitive, go-getter attitude. Yeah she is a bit mean at points, but Rainbow Dash isn't much of a saint either.She got in trouble for things that really shouldn't have been her fault. One being Rainbow Dash hurting her wing, why is that Dust's fault? RD is suppose to be one of the best flyers even I would expect her to shake that off.
As for the tornado I do think it was rather wreckless, but I think she didn't know that the balloon was there. Besides RD's friends shouldn't have been up there, they just intruded into an obstacle course. It's like if a person was intruding into a military base, but was using a target on a targeting range for hiding.
Everyone is going to have they're take on this character, but I really think she didn't deserve the treatment she got.

I think that her being fired as she has been was a little brutal... Felt bad for her when I saw this, and wasn't proud for RD either. She could have tried to plead for her...

Yeah, I wish she was as popular as Trixie. I'm not really a big fan of Trixie I don't like all the narcissism that she had. I like LD because of her hard work and motivation toward her goals also she pushes her limits. She's kind of like me in a way even I use to make the same mistakes she did except it wasn't as extreme as putting others in danger. Weeeeeell technically I put their video game characters in danger xD.

Well Lightning Dust was kinda acting like a bully, and she didn't take into account that her actions had consequences to others and herself. She was so obsessed with becoming the best that she was willing to go as far as to pressure others, even someone like Rainbow Dash, who can be reckless from time to time as well but knows when she's going too far. Also because she seriously endangered RD's friends in that tornado, she didn't put into consideration that they could have been killed and she would get the blame for it. She didn't care about anybody but herself.

Yeah, I think LD knew what she did wrong when dust cleared (no pun intended). I think she didn't want to admit that she did something wrong at the end which is why she didn't acknowledge the part where she nearly killed the mane 6.

I'm all for trying to paint villains in a sympathetic light to add depth to their character, but with Lightening Dust it just doesn't work. The mare nearly killed five ponies and pretty much BRAGGED about it. It'd be different if she'd shown a little remorse, but given the way she responded, I say being demoted was too good for her.

I agree, I've spoken with fellow military bronies all of whom agreed dust endangered multiple civilians and earlier her fellow team mates people have been thrown in the brig for less

It may not work with you, but to me she isn't a bad character she just doesn't understand empathy and she's also clouded by her own ego to care. Demotion or being kicked out is reasonable since that would hurt her ego and make her think about what she did. There are people out there who have this problem and it may not be their ego, but they don't understand empathy. So whatever they do to other doesn't seem like a bad or good thing until it happens to them because then it would be sympathy.

I agree, I could feel sorry for Lightning Dust...IF she hadn't acted so callously about potentially killing the Mane Six and harming all the other cadets. That's the major reason why I don't like her. Other than that, she's just a ruder, bolder, more brash version of Rainbow Dash, and I do like RD.

Ponyone is different i actually liked Spitfire. She might have been a little overzealous but all she wanted to do was prove she was the best. No one here can say they have never tried to go above and beyond on something, as well as have something they wanted snatched from them.

By the way, you did justice to LD. She would be the RD I'd feel sorry for, and truth be told I wished RD had been more like this in previous episodes before "The Wonderbolt Academy".

Truthfully, I think they should not have revealed MDW's identity until a later episode. That's just me, and a few others.

Yeah that would be cool, but it doesn't fit mlp because the episodes usually resolve things in one episode unless it's a finale or the first episode of the season.

If you had read "The Rainbow Factory", it ended with Scootaloo saying to the deranged Rainbow Dash, "You have beautiful eyes....", and stops right there. There was an alternate ending to it by the same author (which I read, but won't bother mentioning, since I'm not a fan of this fic), or someone elses interpretation of what happened (when RD came to her senses, and helped Scootaloo escape). My story doesn't have gore and all that, yet it doesn't leave you with a happy ending. Whether or not the story is a success, I do have additional material for it. "Star Wars" started off as a stand alone movie, but after its success, they made more (originally planned for Nine episodes). I think that might better describe what I'm aiming for.
