Description
This took me like five or six hours to make and good lord am I glad it's done. I forgot to add a couple details in the shading/lineart but overall this is what they look like. I did use various different parts of other dragons to make this(legs of a HiveWing, tail and wings of a LeafWing, body of a RainWing). This might be the only base I make like this tbh. It's a lot more difficult than it looks. The second fantribe for Pieris, the continent where the EnchantedWings live!
Current Queen
None. CloudWings, unlike other tribes, do not have a set ruler.
Habitat
They prefer to live up in mountains or deep within dense forests.
Abilities
Small, microscopic hooks on their wings allow them to fly silently. They are usually quite agile and fast in the air, relying on clouds or fog to keep them hidden from others. They lack any magic or fire, but can breath a cloud of smoke that can put other creatures to sleep.
Appearance
Their eggs have colorful cloudy patterns that match the color of the dragonet inside on a pale blue shell. Parents like to guess what their dragonet will look like judging from the colors of the patterns.
CloudWings are actually covered in soft, velvety fur instead of scales. Their feathers can stick up when the dragon is angry, startled or afraid. Their wings are not actually feathered, just look that way. Some CloudWings have more cloud-shaped wings.
CloudWings are the smallest tribe in the world.
CloudWings can be any color, however these colors are always pastel. The darker blue on Dreamer(pictured above) is as dark as they get, usually.
The exact size and shape of the darker markings vary from dragon to dragon. Some CloudWings don't even have these darker markings.
The same goes for the extra fluff around their necks, underside, legs and wings, as well as their feathers. Some CloudWings have feathery legs instead of fluffy, or fluffy tail tips. Some are even completely covered in fluff or feathers or lack any feathers at all. It's very uncommon, but some CloudWings don't have much fluff on them.
Life
Like all dragons, CloudWings begin their life in an egg that takes a year to hatch. CloudWings can lay anywhere between one to five eggs, however four is very rare and five even more so. CloudWings usually only lay eggs every few years. It can take anywhere from six to nine months for a young CloudWing to learn how to fly, and it's usually around this time that they begin to grow their extra fluff.
Unlike other dragons, CloudWings do not follow a queen, king or any other sort of tribe-wide ruler. Instead, they live in flocks and follow the oldest dragon. These flocks are normally family groups; a mated pair and their offspring. The larger the flock, the more likely it is the little ones will survive.
These flocks normally don't get too big. Once a CloudWing feels they are ready or find themselves a mate after reaching adulthood, they will set off to join or create a new flock. Some CloudWings may remain in their parents' flock their entire lives, but this is usually rare.
CloudWings are extremely shy and skittish, but they are also very curious. First time parents often lose a few dragonets as the little ones like to sneak off to explore when their parents aren't watching and end up wandering too close to something dangerous.
CloudWings are also very playful, even as adults. They enjoy flying through clouds and popping out to startle one another. However, sometimes they may think another dragon is one of them and end up startling an EnchantedWing or SharpWing who just happened to be flying by.
CloudWings prefer hunting in the fog or on cloudy days. They dive down, picking up prey and carrying it off. Because of this method, they usually don't go after larger prey unless a few other CloudWings help out. Carrying prey away means they are less likely to end up in a stand off with a larger predator or other dragon for the meal.
CloudWings will only ever fight to defend themselves or their flock. They prefer to run away or use their smoke to put the threat to sleep if possible.
Other
CloudWings are generally named after animals, plants and other things in their home. Weather and sky themed names are the most common. Some have descriptive, one word names such as Dreamer, similarly to some NightWings and RainWings.
CloudWings have a difficult time flying when they get wet due to the water weighing them down. As a result, most CloudWings cannot swim or choose not to. They also refuse to fly in storms for this reason unless absolutely necessary.
Due to their elusiveness, SharpWings and EnchantedWings know very little about CloudWings.
CloudWings hunt by diving down and carrying it away. Because of this hunting method and their small size, they usually don't go after larger prey unless they're in a group.
CloudWings will take in any orphaned or abandoned dragonet they see, regardless of their breed. This sometimes results in dragons from entirely different tribes being members of a CloudWing flock. It is very common to see at least one BrightWing in a CloudWing flock.
Rules
Do what you want but be sure to follow the guide above when figuring out colors/appearance(although, if yours is a hybrid feel free to go wild and toss out the guide alltogether). Don't be too restricted, though! While the picture above is a good place to start, as stated before most CloudWings differ from one another in various ways! Whether it's amount of fluff or feathers or in markings. Horn shape can also vary!
Be sure to credit me when making one and send me a link or @ me so I can see it!
