Description
Ok I need to take a break from this lady for today. She is proving more difficult. I thought color picking would be easy which would allow me to focus only on mixing the colors except...you only pick a pixel at a time which does not really work when the face has so many colors on it. Plus her face structure was not as simple as I thought so that took some time. I also need to be able to push the colors more and make them more vibrant. Mine is looking pale in comparison. It has to be noted that the previous WIP portrait was scrapped. I keep trying to work like the tutorials I see which includes a simple rough, base color and defining with highlights and shadows. This confuses me and the same thing happened when I did my Master study 2.5: www.deviantart.com/seanash101/…
Also forgot to mention that the texture brushes were getting in my way so I went back to the rounded brush. Will use the textured brush at a later point to see if that works for me.

Thank you for the comment!!! I have seen people use the opacity and I actually don't yet know how to use that. I usually work with a lower flow and 100% opacity. Doing color studies is really kicking my butt . You should check out the portrait 3 study...I think I got the colors looking a little better although I sort of altered her face and now she is looking different to the original image.
I should really invest more time into learning more techniques...especially skin. I just found out that skin reflects whatever background that you are using...Lol for me.
The building up of color seems to be the thing that confuses me the most because I am so used to working with line work first (in those cases I am doing a grey scale study so I can, in those cases, blend the line work into the image. Maybe I should start using brown in my line work instead )

Looking very good! Values look a bit light, especially the big mass of hair. I think it makes it harder to evaluate the other values. Is she blond with dark strains or brunette with blond highlights ??

It's still a work in progress. I just wanted to upload this...it's the reason why I never uploaded on Saturday. I need to still amend some of the facial features like eyes, the left side of the face, mouth, and cheekbone. The colors, I am also working on...mine looks like a lizard in comparison to the warm colors of the original. I really would like to get the eyes to pop more. The hair is a place holder for now until I get there.

Keep getting those eye contours and surrounding hues (my learning color word of the day) darker, and the eyelashes will give it an extra pop/ contrast. Have you checked how close are the values on your wip? It would be nice to see it.

No, I have not checked...don't know how to check how close the values are. I have been eyeballing it.
