Thank you!!   It was actually done mostly in pen and some shading in pencil. Thinking about it now, it was actually pretty stupid of me  . It was in college, I had a tight deadline and I was not used to drawing in pen. On top of that, all the illustrations labeled untitled college project were drawn back to back (aka pen drawing on each side of the pages). I could not afford to make big mistakes and if I did, it needed to be hidden properly

Everything takes time. Before I started, I was super jealous of a friend of mine in college that could easily draw in pen without reference and from imagination without making mistakes. Everything I do has to have a rough pencil sketch first and have a thought process behind it for it to work. It all just takes time and practice.

Thank you!!! I think in this picture I realized the power of scribbling  . If I had more time I would have better drawn the refinery but because of time, I had to figure out a way to give the impression without spending to much time.

Woow the detail is insane!! How did your mind not explode? xD I would've definitely had a headaches if I attempted industrial detail...

Its scribbles. There is no detail. I mimicked shapes and I draw the main eye-catching things like the crisscrosses and big pipes. Everything else in between are scribbles trying to mimic the background shapes without actually showing/ revealing anything. It was a bit hard to do this because I was not prepared to draw every detail so the scribbles helped.

Sounds like a good technique.

Thank you!!!   I, unfortunately, am not much of a traveler. These pictures that I have illustrated is basically all I ever knew growing up till the present. Quick story, the reason why I am now a graphic designer is because of this refinery...Most of the people where I stay go to work here. So I would see a lot of people in blue overalls walking down to work. There was something about it that I did not want to be a part of, it's honest work but I could not see myself living here my whole life, then working with the people I knew in school, for the remainder of my life and just be stuck (I had a scholarship to go here, to study and work. Everything would have been paid for but I could not do it. At the time I wanted more and was not planning on staying in this area. It has been 10 years since school and I have not moved yet...hoping to change all that)

The entire image was done in pen and whatever pencil I could find. Everything you see thats black is pen and every grey-ish thing you see is pencil. I think I may have also used my finger to smudge the pencil here and there to give it that smooth look. As far as all other details go...I tried to mimic the main things you see in the image and everything else is just scribbling (for instance, in the photo, you would notice the vertical pipes and maybe the sections that had pipes crossing each other in an 'x' like shape. I made sure to copy those little things and everything else was scribbles).
