Description
My depiction of Tom Welling as Superman, portrayed in a comic/ad style layout and design.Drawn on 14"x17", scanned, pieced and painted, it's simple, though left as such to mimic a comic or magazine cover spread.
Hope i don't get too much hell for the suit changes, though i figured the spandex look needed an upgrade along with all the other superheroes' suits these days.

Was trying my best to redesign the suit. I'm glad you enjoy this piece, my lack of design skills aside. I hope to improve those skills (text, background, etc.) with my currently progressing art education.

Hi - I think this is a great piece - only thing I'd change is with this style of costume, I'd define his abs more. Not sure why, but I think it would look better that way. Other than that, I love it.

Yours is a very good idea for if i ever do an update on this one. Originally i think i was going for the rubbery costume look, and so dropped some of the possible detail out of certain area's like his abs.
Though looking at it now, i do think your right about having some depth in that area. Would add a bit more Pow! to the piece.

I'm not going to lie to you, I do plan on asking a LOT of people to come and join! This site is amazing but you really have to dig through a lot of stuff to get to the really good comic related pics and it can be quite tedious. The crit forum at comicbloc is one of the friendliest and most supportive on the net and if you are any kind of comic fan, I guarantee that you have been entertained by at least one of the professionals who grace the site with their presence. Geoff Johns (who helps run the site) and Kurt Busiek will both be writing Superman in a few months and they post there fairly often so there will be a TON of Superman fans at the site in a month or two (as if there wasn't a lot already!)
If you do decide to join up, I'd totally appreciate it if you filled in "Brian LaBelle" as your referrer but please don't feel you have to mention me on the site or anything, it won't win you any points with anyone and joining is more than enough thanks for me. I will say most people there don't really dig having to click on links so if there's any way you can directly your post your pics there first and then build up a little following who WILL come check out the pics here, I'd recommend doing that.

man, i'm with you on the suit upgrade, i've been wondering what they'll do for the next movie (if they ever make one). i feel like he looks better with smoother, wavy hair... maybe a little shorter than it is in smallville, though.

Wow - wicked job with this. You make Tom Welling look so much hotter!(not that he isn't already incredibly hot). I prefer your version of his hair to his version of his hair lol. Ya, I like the changes on the suit. It suits SuperMan's age right now and it's extremely sleek.

On the hair, i was trying to aim for the style he may have if and or when he ever actually dons the suit on Smallville (what with his hairstyle change every season, etc.), so i'm glad you noticed, not to mention approve!
Same goes for the suit. Wasn't for certain how well it would be accepted...just a concept after all, though i'm really glad you see it as a plus, and right on for the modern style theme.

No, the suit is definetly a plus lol. I even like the effect you have with the colour - it looks less spandex, more rich and tasteful.

Bulgy groin? Ya think? *L* I was actually just using reference from some of the other film translated super hero costume designs, by which standards this is actually rather modest for a vinyl suit.
The shadows may not be helping much....I'll have to do some reworking. Thanks for the point-out though.

wonderful job on his face! It looks so like him. Yes, I could see that costume being on the WB....kind-of. They'd probably try to accent his muscles/"parts" to a crazy-extreme extent, though. They seem to like doing that a lot.

Hahahaha, it's anatomically formed, yes, but not as anatomically formed as I think the WB capable of airing. I mean, aren't these the people who originally created the "Wolf Lake" series, which got pulled in many places because it became a porno in many "plot points?" It is anatomically formed, yes, but I think that it is good enough that people shouldn't be offended. Besides, I always thought the old one was kind-of strange...undies outside?
