Ok this is my first 'real' attempt at doing a reference sheet :S

This is Sanphire, you might recognise him from the first picture I uploaded to my gallery :3

Just so you know although he is a Hyporia, he is not the same breed as Firefly. This is a much larger breed of Hyporia known as the 'Greater Oceanic’; Firefly's breed is a 'Miniature Reef' which barely grow over 2 feet tall.

Hyporia communicate in song-like whistles and chirps so thier names, if translated into English, are usual quite a long descriptive title. For this reason most Hyporia who have much contact with humans tend to be given a simple, practical name for their use.

The symbols which can be seen below his name is his symbol name which means 'One who chases the wind' All intelligent creatures in their world use this method of speech to talk to one another since most can't mimic the sounds of the other’s language. These are simple runes which are drawn both vertically and horizontally in dirt or sand. Although it is far too simple to hold a conversation, it serves them well enough to inform others or their intentions or to leave messages.

If I get time I'll sketch up an explanation of how to write in symbol speech.
