My concept of mermaids and mermen are:

They're living thousand fathoms deep under the sea. Their bodies are so strong so the depth can't crush them. Commonly mermaids keep their chest bare cause they're not comfortable using scallops or seaweeds when they're swimming in the Ocean. But some of them using the scallops or seaweeds to cover their chest (those who keep in-touch with the LAND).

They could swim fast. Real fast. And their tails are strong.

Most of the mermaids have very pale colours of skins, eyes, and hairs. That's because they rarely see the sun. Live a life deep under the sea doesn't mean they don't have the light. They have lights but kind of different light from the sun. Light that never burn their skin.

Most of them have long blond yellow gold or silvery hair, Bright blue-green colours in any shades. Sometimes purple or golden eyes. Their skin are so white, so pale, and they are cold blooded like reptiles. Oops ... I describe them just like Vampire. They're beautiful as Ancient God and Goddess and all of them have beautiful voices to sing if they want to talk in the ocean. They're sing. They're immortal.

They never get sick or old (OK! Vamps again ). But the sea are very cruel,Only sea can bring them death as the sea bring them life and nurture them.

All mer people have long hair, depends on their power too. the more longer hair they have, the more powerful he or she is. The hair is long as knee. They don't have salon, mall or scissors to cut the hair. They're very proud with their hair. But the young ones sometimes cut their hair and the mer-guards have only waist long hair.

They have gills on their shoulder to breath under water. But they have lungs too.

If they're scared or have tension or fight or war, their skins become strong and hardly could penetrate by knife or needle - Superman skin. But If they're feel comfortable and relax, their skin become soft and smooth like baby skin.

They have tears like human does And if they spill the tears, it would become pearl which can grant you wish for each pearls. They are fairy creatures after all. But mer people are seldom to cry. Almost never cry. They're living life happy in the ocean, carefree but if they try to swim above to see the sun they must careful and discreet. But sometimes if they're sun bathing above, the sailors could catch a glimpse. Some mermen mistaken as mermaids because of their long hair and have the same colours and beauty.

They could feel the changes of the weather, weaves, storm and such. Sometimes they tried to warn the sailors about the great storm of ocean, they were trying to communicate with their own language - they're singing. The sailors were afraid with them and thought that the songs meant to allure them into death and sink their ships. Finally mer people gave up and never again try to help the sailors anymore.

But in rare case, just like other fairies in fairy tales, merman and mermaid fall-in-love with human and stole them away from land, dragged them to the sea and have family with them and they're live happily ever after. They don't like living on the land, to much pollution said them.
