Description
This kind of thing bugs me to no end.A wonderful piece of artwork (well, not in this case) turned to crap by art-theft-paranoid artists and jpegged to death to save on loading time.
If someone's going to steal my art, they're going to steal my art. Even if I put my nifty signature on it, and even if I put explicit instructions NOT to steal it right there in the corner.
And if someone has dial-up (like me), they're just going to have to wait for it to load. If a pic is good, I don't mind the extra waiting time.
Why vandalize your own art?
Anyway.... that's my rant. Now go steal my art.
(Oddly enough, I actually like how my signature thing turned out. o.o And it only took me 30 seconds to make!)

You're so right. @_@ I mean, signatures are okay (if they aren't the size of half of the pic XDD) but I personally wouldn't fav a pic that has "OMG PLZ DON'T STEAL IMMA KILL YOU AND OMGLAWYERS" plastered all over it, even if it was a Picasso. 8D;; (RIP)

Drat, I forgot to put OMGLAWYERS on there... >.<
And... I don't think I would fave a Picasso, even if it was a Picasso. O__o But that's me.
Thank you for the comment. X3

I agree. Watermarks can be MINIMAL and EFFECTIVE at the same time.
If you're that jaded or paranoid about your art being stolen, open up a friend's only LJ.

Yes. Some people I know creatively hide them in their pictures, like along the hems of clothing, or blended with the background.
Luckily, I haven't reached the talent or popularity level yet to warrant people stealing my stuff. So I don't often even put copyright stuff on my pics.
Maybe someday I'll be good enough to have art thieves of my very own! @.@

I only do that when I have an unpaid commission to exhibit...otherwise I add a small, inconspicuous watermark...I don't mind my art being used elsewhere but I would like it if the watermark stays, see... Plus most people don't notice it, so if anything did get stolen I dout they'd bother taking it off. Which makes things easier in the long run. ^^

If people want to mark up their work so it doesn't get stolen, then yeah, i support that.
Watermarking is used by countless professional artists,
and signatures should be used by everyone.

Totally agree with you: it's up to the artist if and how they want to watermark (tasteful, extreme, whatever), and since many people are trying to make money off their work, having it float around and be easily reproduceable isn't often prefered.
Besides: If you get to look at nice art (for free), why is it worth the time to begrumble how someone protects their time investment? I had to go through a court case a few years ago because of "art theft" that led to someone personally profiting from artwork I'd put up online (without watermarks), which is why I now use them.

haha! A very sad but true thing...I like this piece just by the message that's behind it.
And yes, I think it's sad that good art is thrown to waste by large signatures and banners running through them.
