No, you don't need to be a premium member to put an icon. Premium member can also put a CSS one the gallery ( background image).
To do it, you have to create first a gallery folder, after you have to go inside this folder and look on the top of the gallery, the icon "option".
inside, you can :
*arrange you folder,
*put a description of it and
*also change the icon folder.
With premium subscription, you can change the bakcground...
