Taius' father Gallead was a high ranking officer in the dragon army when he met Ceriss. They were madly in love from the start and he would retire so they could grow their family together. Their first clutch was an entire 6 egg group, which took a horrific toll on Ceriss. So much so that after laying her eggs, she immediately passed away.
Gallead was devastated, and was horribly lost on what to do. But by the time his eggs were ready to hatch, he had pulled himself together and was prepared to raise them as tough and strong dragons, with absolutely no chance of ever befalling a fate like their mother had.

He would train them vigorously through their childhood, and found that they would succeed wonderfully through his drills. It seemed that they took after him in that regards, which he was relieved for. Well, all except one that is. His son Taius struggled through every training session, and hadn't passed a single one his whole life. Instead, he would often catch him singing to himself alone.

Singing... was something Ceriss did.

Gallead would see Ceriss' death whenever he looked at Taius, and could feel his heart start suffocating at the thought of going through that again, but with his son.

He couldn't...no.. he wouldn't.

He knew he couldn't turn his son into what he was. So... he had to give him up.
Perhaps a part of him knew he wasn't thinking clearly. Perhaps he knew he wasn't healthy in his head. Maybe the years in the army and Ceriss' death had damaged him that way. But all he knew was that no matter what, he wouldn't live through that again.

He took Taius to the Dragon Temple, leaving him on the doorstep and flying away before he was spotted.

As Taius was raised by the Guardians and grew up with the other hatchlings there, it didn't take him long to realize what happened. Why he was there and not with his father and siblings anymore. He was young when he was brought here, but he still remembered his father training him and his siblings. He remembered his siblings being perfect at it, and ignoring him for being the weakest one. He remembered his fathers disappointed looks. And as he got older he began to realize and accept that he had been disowned.

This took an enormous toll on his confidence. His father didn't want him, his siblings didn't miss him, and it was because he was a sore excuse for a dragon. Taius grew to be very embarrassed and ashamed of himself.

This began to change when he met Flame and Ember. They saw him excluding himself often, and would reach out to him to hang out with them. Taius didn't think they'd want to if they found out how weak his abilities were, but they made it clear that that didn't matter to them in the least, and that they were much more interested in who he was as a person. Taius grew to open up to them and trust them as true friends. They became his new family, along with Frisha who also was a part of their friend group.
With them, Taius found his home and his happiness, and eventually, he felt happy enough to start singing again.

Trivia:

-Taius doesn't know his heritage. Aside from his father and siblings, he is unaware of any other family, and nor do they know of him. Gallead hadn't shared his children nor Ceriss' death with her family before he'd disowned Taius. Even though they both live in the city, Bajeira and Taius do not know they're related.
