"Lin...? What's wrong...?" Aang asked gently.
"Ah. I see," he said as he listened patiently.
"Sometimes... sometimes things don't go the way we want them to...
But even if that should be... we still should never turn our backs to the ones who need and rely on us."
"Come on," Aang said with a cheerful smile.
"Let's go find your mother."
I just always loved how Lin (and Asami!) keep helping those around them despite being given so many lemons in life. They're my two favorite new characters because of it and I imagined that, at least for Lin, her heroism came from an inspiring conversation with Aang when she was young

Well, her mom was one of the big and powerful, so I'm not saying she was digging for gold or glory. I think it was more like, "Hey, he was my best friend as a child; and now I've grown to respect his parents a whole lot! Maybe this can be something more!"
