Description
The Materials: Pencil under Micron pen (.005) and superfine Sharpie, shading with Tria markers and colors by Winsor and Newton inks. Been sitting in the sketchbook for a while, and I decided to experiment. The Meaning: Absolutely none. I'm one of those pesky artists that draws and paints things without any emotional involvment because they are pretty. I did not find him in any evil manual on how to summon demons or whatnot. The circle under him has NO MEANING at all. It does, however, include certain clues to me. The 81 in there is indicative of my birth year. Lamorak was a villain in one of the best fantasy novels of all time, and Rebma is a location in another of the greatest fantasy novels of all time.
It started as an idea to draw a tattoo, featuring a large skull wearing a cow ribcage as a hat. It kind of went from there and I learned to let it be it's own boss.
I'm not a Christian or a Elder god worshiper.
Check out those tentacles. Wow. Cthulu!

You know, this is awesome. , no doubt about it.
I reccommend using COPIC 0.03 Micron pens, for the record. They also sell wonderful yummy little ink pens, which are like watercolor but more controlled. Great stuff.
And the design of this is great, too. It's the anti-Pantocrator.

Those sound insanely more expensive than my Trias. I'll probably end up getting my own set for myself on my birthday, just because.
I could really learn to like using an airbrush, too. ... And I always wanted a 8x10 computer tablet....
I think I need a sugar daddy.

Wow very cool design work here, I love all the different textures and this odd combonation of seeing this image that appears to be kind of dark in nature, but it's done in all these light colors.

Thanks. That actually reminds me of an old project of stained glass window designs based on Grimms fairy tales. Always wanted to draw Hansel in a cage.

heh. that's awesome!
i'm amused with your no-meaning ness...
many people try to be so deep.
i often struggle to respond when someone asks me what my art means.
i want them to come up with their own meaning/story...
more fun that way
heheh
greatness... tis a fav. wooo
i'm designing a tattoo right now too. *OMG We're like totally twins*

I'm a little jealous of artists who can be so bare as to put something emotional or personal down. Don't know if it's just cause I'm not that serious, or some kind of character flaw, but I can't bear to put anything up that's even remotely emotional.
Anyway, thanks. Unfortunately, this won't be used as a tattoo.
Unless I suddenly feel like putting up two grand and getting it done myself.

Oye... wow. Beautiful work... I really admire your eye for details and color. I love the combination of the animal jawbone with the human skull. Beautiful work on the feathers also, and the text on the black circle in the background is very smooth and well-defined. I could go on and on, but all I really need to say is that I love this, and aspire to it, and it's a definite favorite for me...

Thanks! It took a few hours to get the bird right, just to make the feathers look real and not like I was pulling them out of my butt... As for the circle, my old art teacher was the a sought out calligrapher for transcribing degrees for doctors and stuff. So I kind of picked a few things up. Wonder why my handwriting isn't neater. hmmm...

I like the mix of images. If one would describe this to me I'd think it would look a mess... but here, you've taken the parts and made one great image.
Nice to see other Micron users out there. I use .005 almost exclusively as my pen of choice. Though I put alot of pressure on them with curves and such so they tend to split after a few pages.

seneschal In reply to hope7 [2004-09-09 02:20:16 +0000 UTC]
The symmetry really helps to unclutter the image. It's a neat trick.
Sometimes I go and intentionally bend a micron pen so the nib is crooked.
Oh well, they're only like $5 each...

Meaning is kind of overrated and usually doesn't come across right. So I usually nix the meaning, since people are gonna find some kind of way to interpret it anyway. Thanks for all those comments

Excellent work! Beautiful colors and details in this. Reminiscent of tarot cards.
Rebma....would that be Amber, as in Chronicles of Amber (not sure I have that title right -- I've misplaced the book)?

Yep, I love that book. Read it like three times. All of them.
Lamorak is from a book called Heroes Die by Mathew Woodring Stover. You should definitely read it. Loads of mayhem and really well written fight scenes.

I am kind of familiar with his works. Which is to say I own a few but wouldn't know him by name. I was originally going for the look of the Witchcraft covers by an artist whose name I can't seem to turn up on google at the moment.
But thank you.

The Kaluta page has mostly Books Of Magic. I guess they were more popular or something, like a longer print run. I really liked the symmetry of the Witchcraft covers. He has a real good idea of what works in symbolism, too.
