My body marched on, like the key told it to, impossible gears making me move programmatically, and I was helpless to do anything about it. I had been since she did this to me. The best I could manage was making my face very, very surprised.

“I. can’t. write. stories. for. you. like. this!”

“Oh, you can, and you will. See, you’re marching to the pens right now.”

“But. they’re. too. big. for. me. to. hold!”

“Hmmm. Sounds like a ‘you’ problem. One I’m sure you will adapt to.”

Now I knew just how all the characters I had turned into dolls felt
