Here's what happened after the lesson was done.
Magnus: That was very good Miss. Sparkle, very impressive.
Twilight: Why thank you Lord Magnus .
Magnus: Well you show great promise in the fields of magic. I believe you will be a truly great unicorn mage one day.
Twilight: Oh thank you Lord Magnus! It means so much to hear that from somepony like you! *hugs his left leg*
Magnus: *looks down at her in surprise* *he's touch by her showing any kind of affection or real kindness toward him*
Twilight: Are you ok my Lor....
Magnus: *tears up a little and hugs her back* Thank you Twilight.

You need to make a squeal to this. Where Magnus hugs Twilight for helping him stay good and loyal, showing him the power of friendship. That would be amazing.

Well I actually like Magnus a lot. He's a tragic figure that was trying to stay loyal, but was manipulated into serving evil.

Well my favorites are Leman Russ and Vulkan. I love Vulkan beuse he and his sons care, protect, and fight for civilians, and that's really awesome. And I love Leman because he's a awesome fierce warrior who also does care about the masses, though not as openly as Vulkan.

Warhammer 40k's Magnus the Red.
Basically he's a very powerful demon with lots of free time on his hands. He also enjoyed teaching others when he was still mortal and there is a story describing him meeting with wizards from alternate universes.
So, with a giant stretch, he could have taught Twilight....

I personally like the ideaΒ of Magnus mellowing out in the centuries after the heresy (dude hardly leaves his tower).
In this particular case, he'd want to make sure Twilight has a firm grip on her powers and her limits, so she doesn't end up like he and his legion.
