U MAD, ULQUIORRA?I sure as hell am.
I used to really like Ichigo, but he's not a fun character anymore. He's got such a 'must-protect-everyone' complex that I want to punch him in the face and yell "Quit being a boring 2 dimensional character!"
(and a MarySue)
Also, I understand the whole invincible protagonist thing. I hate it, but I get it. No one will watch/read a story if the main character dies like half way into it.
But as far as I know, Ichigo has died and come back to life like 3 times.
THREE TIMES.
And twice by Ulquiorra's hand (literally once, haha). If I were him, I'd be fucking pissed.
So, this is just a little fanart I doodled up to vent my frustrations.

Oh, true. I gave up on watching the anime after the hueco mundo arc and have only been reading the manga, so I didn't know about her. I'm kinda glad I didn't have to watch a story arc about a mary sue like nozomi tho lol

Prior to this he has already mastered something it takes centuries in days, finished off the villain with plot convenience and deus ex machina, even a "I wanted to be normal" when he wanted the opposite( so he could protect his friends.) It's unfortunate.

To be fair, he used a drastic, time-saving method for the Bankai. The kind that would've killed him if he screwed it up.

He has protagonist plot powers. His chances of success are over 9000. He had a woman faint at the sight of him in Fullbring, that out of character "I wish I was normal" and more.

Riruka is a fangirl, and proud of it. Of course she'd freak out when confronted with something she finds appealing. (Though I do question her tastes in some cases. Pig-man?)
Out of character? That was his way of coping with losing his powers. In fact, at the start of the series, he DID wish he were normal.

He's the protagonist. Besides, he always gets his ass saved one way or another. The plot says he will most likely power up to defeat the Nazis okay?Β

The guy seems to have forgotten all his character development in the past. He used to be that guy who couldn't care less to someone who wishes to protect. He had his fair share of chances to say no. He didn't and continued.

The same could be said for any main character of any story. Unless it's a tragedy. Then they're screwed.
Riruka's pretty... odd.
He's always tried protecting something no matter what anyone else said. But at that point, he had no means to protect anything. Without powers, a rank-and-file Shinigami or low-level Hollow would probably kick his butt. Remember how he fared against Fishface at the beginning before the power-stabbage? He was weak, he knew he was weak, and thus tried to cope with it by telling himself "Well, I wanted to be normal anyway."
If he really had forgotten that determination, he'd never have accepted Xcution's offer.

Some protagonists don't get stronger and/or don't get saved so dang often by others. Β I say Ichigos abusing his privilege of being the protagonist. He didn't have enough, he had to be a quincy too.

I don't think he need coping in this case. In fact the timeskip is a perfect opportunity for Zangetsu to introduce quincy powers. If he wanted more powers at any time before Fullbring, he could have obtained it.Β

I can think of a lot of way protagonists don't "get stronger" and still save the day, including Ichigo. It doesn't have to be an increase in power level. Sometimes, good ol' experience and skill are enough. Take Ichigo for example; before visiting Soul Society, he was only able to overpower Renji when his hidden power reserves kicked in (and he started acting suspiciously similar to his Inner Hollow). But as Uryu himself notes, his training with Urahara increased not his power level, but his experience. He then has the skill needed to take on stronger foes without relying on adrenaline-boosts.
Then there's the Dangai-training. The Final Getsuga Tenshou was the ONLY actual power-up he got from that. Everything else he got was a little buffing for his regular Shinigami form.
...How many times must I say this? HIS QUINCY POWERS WEREN'T ACTIVE, AND OLD MAN ZANGETSU COULDN'T DO A DANG THING TO CHANGE THAT. IF HE COULD, HE'D HAVE MADE ICHIGO A TRUE-BLUE QUINCY YEARS AGO.

And maybe we should start making a game out of doing something every time Ichigo gets his butt kicked and saved. It happens so often it gets annoying at times. Also he got plenty more than skill. His inner powers were unleashed instead of using Rukias.
I'm sure he was plenty stronger coming out even without the DEM. Everything else was a new technique or form.
Quincy powers were quite inconsistent. Uryu didn't count as any exposure apparently. Also "it only happened because there was no other way" doesn't work. If the quincy powers are that hopelessly stubborn than they might as well left Ichigo in that prison. These powers are freaking self aware. They only work when the plot says so and never when it is convenient.Β

The powers themselves aren't self aware. The part of Ichigo's psyche made to manage them is. And it was probably frustrating to be in charge of a power he couldn't even turn on. And I already stated multiple times how exposure to Uryu's power didn't meet the second requirement.

But really they're quite picky. A little too picky I think. None of Ichigos other power are so inconvenient to awaken.

Because Ichigo had already been suped up with Shinigami power before, and humans are capable of natural Hollowfication anyway. The Quincy power might've awakened sooner if Rukia's stab-action hadn't gotten there first. The soul itself had already been set to Shinigami, then Shinigami/Hollow. Even after burning out due to Mugetsu, the Hollow power still took priority over Quincy.
It's not that they refused to awaken. They COULD NOT awaken.

ogad i agree, he's an overachiever, too much of a hero complex, and i just want to end his reign of terror heroism. Ichigo nver loses, FUCKIN NEVER. he beat a fucking captain when he could barely call on his zanpaktou, I mean WTF!? And when sum1 kills u twice in 1 battle, u dnt cum back to life. it woulda been a better show if that little priss was out of it.

Kinda makes the fights not as exciting when you know the guy will just resurrect if he gets killed.

I agree with you in the part of he never being killed, even when his heart was fucking pulverized by ulquiorra's cero oscuras and after finished with him his heart, bones, meat and skin returned like
fucking magic! And i liked how he was a badass "i care for nothing and noone" type of guy, and now he wanna help people that he doesn't even know of were his enemies. >
P.S. with "No one will watch/read a story if the main character dies like half way into it." Goku died 4 or more times in the whole DBZ series and returned.

Well, I am willing to cut him slack for physics because laws of physics do not apply to most animes anyway (I mean people in Naruto pull a Jesus..They walk on water.) But yes, he fails big time in Biology. And his plotkais are just too much. Especially when it comes to the Orange haired strawberry.
