I love it because the only way I feel connected to the world is through being able to touch. If I can only see it but can't feel it, can't imagine the feel of it, then it feels as good as watching it on television.

It's a weird feeling when real life feels like it's being watched on TV. Thanks for the thought!

Nice, though, this isn't the first time I've seen someone use this analogy. Tsuzuki Tsuta has a one shot that uses the same concept that was published....last year maybe. Really nice repetition though.

Cool - I'm not familiar with Tsuta's, but I'll certainly look it up. Thanks!

Be careful. It's yaoi. I just wanna warn you now. I don't want to leave you without a heads up and then scarred for life. Her work isn't heavy, but there are still somethings that you can never un-see

Thanks. Yaoi doesn't sound like my thing overall, but it's not so hard to separate the craft from the content.

I agree. However, sometimes, you see things that leave you in a painful limbo.

What I like most about this is all the tiny details. Upon first read its very simple, gentle and surreal. But looking again, each panel contains so many tiny little details that add intrigue to the character. Like the toys on the floor in the third panel, the handcuffs in the fourth, even the books and furniture. Fascinating narrative and depth to such a simple idea!

Thank you. Drawing from life helps, though I don't have handcuffs on my bed.

How creative, to make this an endless loop!
I also love the simple way you partitioned this - with the small panels on the left and the wider block of text on the right. Very nice style of drawing too - my favorite panels are the one where he's trying to push through the wrap to reach outside and the one with the office building.

Thanks. The office building is based on the one I worked in at the time. Easy reference.

Thank you. Melancholy is a good word for it - it's hardly a dramatic feeling.

I love how the first frame is "unstarted" and the last one is bottomless - unfinished, and at the same time, looping forever Congrats on the DD!

I discovered the term derealization while I was working on this, and I did it in part to try to convey what it's like. I'm happy that it seems to have worked to an extent.

zancan In reply to ??? [2009-12-16 15:37:44 +0000 UTC]
On first frame I liked the idea, of a man that is feeling a bit off, an observer of the world who is maybe a little too shy, or irrelevant, to interact correctly with it.
The narration is very gentle, and the drawing done with care and humbleness. We advance through frames with the odd feeling infusing into us, with empathy for the narrator, until the last frame. And we end up confused, unsure of what plane of imagination we are supposed to navigate in. There we understand the bizarre cropping of the comics, and the fact it loops.. or .. wraps. Adorable and clever.

Thanks for the thoughts (and the favorite). Totally different medium and execution, but I thought it shared some themes with Serotonin. (For others: [link] )
