Description
After I uploaded some of my practice work yesterday (with two more added today!) a great deal of people expressed interest in doing them as well. So here's my prompt/exercise to get people into the wondrous word of painting environments. These are the original colors I started my backgrounds with! You can see where I added more colors and where I painted over them.
Too many people think of backgrounds, as well, in the background. However, it is in your interest to consider the picture as a whole, with a focus. Painting tiny little environments is a way to break out of that mentality, and practice as well.
Here's how to do it:
1. Take these base colors.
2. Grab a word or two from the word list.
3. Visualize your image. Think about what you want it to look like.
4. Paint directly on the color of your choice, taking reference as needed. Feel free to change the colors, or even paint completely over them!
5. Upload!
Try to:
-Keep the drawings short & small! Time yourself, and get a drawing done in under ONE HOUR. Getting caught up in the details is no good. If you feel like you want to expand on a drawing, save it for later!
-Not draw people/animals in the foreground. They can be used as props, but the important thing is the environment.
-Swap compositions about.
-If you get stuck, throw it out and start another!
Word list:
Bridge
Tower
House
Manor
Mountain
Valley
Sunrise/Sunset
Lake
Forest
Tree
Field
Market

Your mini-environment paintings were the original reason that I started watching you. I love these! This exercise looks kind of fun.

I'll have to try this! I like how you have the base colors already there, as well as a word list- it's a lot easier than starting from nothing (especially when you're very inexperienced with environments). I can look at the color and a couple words, and instantly have an idea of what to draw!
